Mario blasts games over the airwaves

Owners of Apple iPhones are no longer the only ones who can wirelessly download new software direct to their devices — Nintendo DSi buffs now can join in too. The new DSi Ware application store performs much like the iPhone equivalent in that it’s packed with software of all sorts, from paper plane simulators to personal money trackers to brand new games.

While many apps are free, most line up at the 200, 500 and 800 Nintendo Point marks (200-800 yen). Nintendo clearly hopes developers will push the envelope for its new handheld, so we can expect to see plenty of novel uses for those DSi pinhole cameras. (J Mark Lytle/Metropolis)

Unlike an iPhone that has a hard disk, a way to connect to the internet 100% of the time, with the resent Japanese Court decision to outlaw DS memory cards with simm disks, I find it pointless to download a game for 1 time use or to keep the game on their server and find a WIFI network to download it every time you want to play it.

I frequently wirelessly download software directly on to my PC netbook. I think JT's tech writer needs a reality check. He makes such misleading statements on a regular basis, usually to promote a Crapple product.

Love the DS, but hate nintendo's knack for "redesigning" their hardware every two or three years. I'd rather see these new apps on all DS systems then being forced to buy a "new" one that does pretty much the same stuff plus a few new features.
