Memory card reader supports 54 different types of media

TOKYO —

Elecom is releasing a new memory card reader with support for 54 different types of media. The MRS-MB03BK can be connected directly to a smartphone or tablet PC, and even a standard PC in order to read data from a variety of memory cards. It can be used with smartphones/tablet PCs with USB host functionality and built-in USB micro-B connector.

This is an extremely useful device as it can connect directly to smartphones and tablet PCs in order to access data from a variety of digital devices without the need to connect via a PC. And of course, it can also be used for exchanging data with a PC as well.

As well as including a USB (micro-B) ⇔ USB (mini-B) converter cable so it can connect to a smartphone or a tablet PC directly, the “MRS-MB03BK” also comes with a USB (mini-B) ⇔ USB (A) cable so it can connect to a PC. Both USB cables are detachable so you only need to carry the ones you need to use; it is also very compact and portable as the cables can be easily removed.

Small sized media such as micro SD/micro SDHC cards, which are used in many cell phones including smartphones/tablet PCs, can be inserted directly into this memory card reader without the need of an adaptor. It can also access data from 48 different types of media such as SD memory cards, SDHC cards, and the higher standard of SDXC cards, various types of memory sticks, MMC cards, etc. without the need of an adaptor; plus an additional 6 types of media if using an adaptor.

It is USB bus powered so it does not need an AC adaptor, and there is no need to install any special drivers; simply connect to a smartphone/tablet PC, or a PC and you can use it straight away. Additionally, it has an access light indicator that lets you know at a glance when data is being accessed.

54 different types of media? Probably 6 or 7 actual different physical types, the rest are the different capacities of the media, e.g. 4GB 32GB, 64GB, etc.. A little bit of marketing hype I think.....
