More remote computing action

More remote computing action

When it comes to silly product names, it’ll be hard to beat Mouse Computer’s “LUV MACHINES LM-i433S-PL22W1 Lui” — a PC, 22-inch monitor, and PDA package that’s supposed to facilitate all manner of weird and wonderful computing.

The “Lui” part of the name comes from technology licensed from NEC, which sells a horribly costly home media server by the same name. Lui enables the PC to stream media to wireless terminals running the same software. In this case, one such handheld device made by NEC is included.

Aside from watching movies anywhere in the house, this also allows for remote control of the desktop, although we have no idea why anyone would do that rather than just walk into the next room and sit down at the desk. (J Mark Lytle/Metropolis)

In a 1k apt watching movies anywhere in the house makes sense.

It would be convenient to access the desktop when applications are going through processes like printing, downloading, or virus scans.

Well, why not use the free version of the program VLC instead?

If you're watching a vid from your computer on your TV, you might want to pause it or go frame by frame -- to see what's on the grassy knoll in a Zapruder film, for example, or (more likely) whether Sophie Marceux has had a boob job.

With PC anywhere i can currently connect and control my computer, from anywhere in the world. They even have a version i can use in my Pocket PC mobile phone.

It may not have the bandwidth for watching videos, but for that you may want to use HDMI cables hooked up to a blu-ray player or tuner, because full HD needs massive bandwidth anyway.
