Morinaga yogurt

Morinaga yogurt

Sweetened, condensed milk makes a reappearance in the guise of yogurt from the Morinaga milk company. The company has produced a dense, sweet yogurt that is said to contain only 135 kilocalories per package and costs 130 yen.

    That's not a pot, it's a pouch.

Unhealthy crap! People are only worried about calories here.

    Sweetened condensed milk? Sounds vile.

Yoghurt is not supposed to be sweet. Though I do like mine condensed, if that's the right word - when the watery whey leaches out and what's left is wickedly, seductively thick, like clotted cream. Yum.

the thickest yoghurt in Japan is the brand called "Jersey cow yoghurt". but it does not have whey. Whey is a sign of real yoghurt. If there is no whey, it means the yoghurt is kind of artificial, many additives inside which producers usually hide in the label. Anyway, real yogurt and real men are the best. Difficult to find though.

LoveUSA, real yoghurt is easy if you make your own. A yoghurt-making machine (basically a pot that keeps the milk at a steady temperature) isn't all that expensive. Yotsubakai plain yoghurt makes a good starter.

I make batches of a litre at a time and pour the whey out into the dog's bowl as it accumulates and the yoghurt gets thicker. It's delectable.
