Here’s something for natto lovers. Kume Quality Product Corp is combining it with sukiyaki sauce rather than soy sauce which is often used. The company says salty-sweet sukiyaki sauce is a good combination with natto and boiled rice. The product is available at supermarkets.

Even if you put lipstick in Nasto, it is still Nasto. I tried it with okra in sushi gunkan, and almost vomitted in the place. Yes, an acquired taste that I refuse to own.

The worst insult to sukiyaki.......

Its very funny that so many people hate natto. In my long experience of eating a vegetarian diet, including lots of tofu, soy sauce, and miso; natto becomes a welcome addition, and is filled with great nutrition AND taste, once your taste buds change from thinking Big Mac and fries with coffee are the greatest. There truley is no accounting for taste. All natto is, is fermented soybeans. I'll bet the same people who are professing their hatred for natto are the same people who would swear by roquefort cheese. Tell me which smells more like a jockstrap?

In my long experience of eating a vegetarian diet, natto ranks somewhere behind rotten onion saute and not very far ahead of coarse-ground glass and gravel stirfry in the welcome addition stakes.
Can't say I'm an expert on the aroma of jockstraps, but the stink of natto is an affront to perfectly respectable beans everywhere.

I gotta agree. At first, I really didn't like natto at all. But after having tried it several times, I really got to like it. It tastes great with rice and some chopped green onions. It also goes down much lighter than those oily greasy burgers they have at McDonald's (I now know how Morgan Spurlock felt when he barfed his McDs out his car window). Yes, it's an acquired taste, like many healthy foods (brussel sprouts, cauliflower, rice cakes, ...). At the very least, natto can be digested; which is more than I can say for those hard-as-a-rock fruitcakes I used to get during Christmastime back home (which I swear has been passed around the country from Christmas to Christmas; person to person).

Second the motion: "One of the nastiest and most vile concoctions known to man."

I eat natto once in a while and have no problem with it. Not a huge fan of the texture, but the smell isn't as bad as many on here are whining about. The idea of putting it together with something so unhealthy, when natto is purported to be a healthy food, is pretty stupid. Sukiyaki sauce, when not made from scratch, is utterly vile; chalk full of additives and preservatives, sugar, etc. It cancels out every ounce of healthiness in the natto.

You've never watched my co-worker eat it.

There are some things in life I'll pass on acquiring, and a taste for natto is one of them. And big macs suck too!

Natto is a far-sight better than vegemite/marmite, and plenty of people scarf that down.
HaroldSteptoe at 06:33 AM JST - 19th October
Natto!! Oh yes , i have tasted teh vile stuff, most disagreeable especially to a gourmet such as myself.
I often have lightly toasted bread spread with marmite for supper, i would never do the same with natto, yuck! that stuff gives you the gallops.

With sukiyaki sauce? I prefer it with tokunisukijanaiyaki sauce.

Natto by itself is an excellent health food that is a blood thinner that does away with blood clots. I much prefer natto than Warfarin (rat poison) that doctors sometime use as a blood thinner and I use Natto every day for health reasons - incidentally, I like it, especially with brown rice. I will not use sukiyaki sauce by itself, but it is also excellent in a Sukiyaki meal.(sliced meat and lots of vegetables and noodles.)
