au by KDDI has released a highly-durable Android 4.4 smartphone, TORQUE G01, manufactured by Kyocera.
TORQUE G01 complies with a commodity procurement standard of the USA military called MIL-STD-810G. It is IPX5/IPX8 waterproof, IP6X dustproof, and shock-resistant as well as saltwater-resistant (it works after getting continuous 24 hour saltwater spray and being left to dry for another 24 hours) and moisture-proof (it works after being left in a high-humidity environment continuously for 10 days).
In addition, the 4.5-inch touch panel screen allows you to control with a wet hand or with a gloved hand. There is also a function to pair up with Casio's G-Shock Series via Bluetooth network and use a call notification or search functions.
TORQUE G01 has an 8MP main camera, 2MP sub-camera, infrared communication mode, mobile wallet, NFC, 3,100mAh battery, 16GB ROM, and 2GB RAM, and supports microSDXC card (up to 128GB). Size: 68x136x13.5-15.4mm Weight: 182g Color: Red, Black

Good news, now I know my phone will be safe from corrosion the next time I get sloppy while drinking a Margarita or Salty Dog.

Last summer i would take my NEC phone out into the surf to take pics. Was mostly ok but the salt water plays havoc with the earphone socket (would say "headphones connected" for a few hours afterwards).
While not the main activity at the beach, its good to be able to do that without having to worry about the phone
