Short-throw projector

Well, it’s no Sony LSPX-W1S 4K short-throw projector, but the BenQ MW621ST DLP unit is less than 1/50th the cost, a fraction of the size, and it’s newly updated 64-inch viewing area from 1 meter ain’t bad at all.

The Taiwan-based, multinational BenQ is making the MW621ST available here in Japan and around the world, and it’s probably best to try sourcing it locally: while they’ve managed to fit a lot of great tech into a relatively small package, it still weighs 2.6 kg, so shipping will add a chunk to the purchase price.

If you’re in the market for a relatively affordable high-enough-res projector, something to use in smaller rooms (business & education), BenQ’s 13000:1 contrast ratio, WXGA (1280 x 800) offering should more than suffice.

Specs for the BenQ MW621ST: Interface, Input/Output: Computer in (D-sub 15pin), Monitor out (D-sub 15pin), Composite Video in (RCA), S-Video in (Mini DIN 4pin), HDMI, Audio in (Mini Jack), Audio out (Mini Jack), Audio L/R in (RCA), Built-in Speaker (10W), USB (Type A & Type Mini B), RS232 (DB-9pin), IR Receiver x2 (Front+Rear) Dimensions: 287.3 x 114.4 x 232.6 mm (11.3 x 4.5 x 9.12 in.) Brightness: 3000 ANSI Lumens Resolution: WXGA (1280 x 800) at Native 16:10 (with 5 additional aspect ratios) Available: March 6 Price: ¥89,800 (~$750.00)

turbotsat, the Sony projector is $50,000. It quite a beautiful product, but will not exactly fly off the shelves at that price.
