Solo BBQ grill

Spring has sprung in Japan, and the cherry blossoms will soon be in full bloom. A favorite spring pastime of many Japanese is hanami, or “flower-viewing”, where friends, family and coworkers gather together to have picnics and barbeques under the blooming cherry blossom trees, as a way to welcome the end of winter and enjoy the nice weather and floral display.

Just in time for the season, DOPPELGÄNGER OUTDOOR has released their new solo barbeque grill, just perfect for… all those lone hanami-goers out there?

The solo barbeque grill comes with a grilling net and charcoal tray which all folds up in its compact, portable carrying case, which also acts as the grill’s base. Similar in size and shape to an attaché case, the solo grill is easy to carry, and all you need to do is open it up and set the tray and net in place to get grilling.

The solo, wine-drinking man advertising the grill in the feature photo above gives it a rather lonesome feel, but the grill could work just as well for two, and its portable size makes it perfect for camping, fishing, or even solo touring trips.

Many Japanese netizens seem to be pretty excited about the solo grill too:

“I want this!” “It’s the perfect size for grilling while having a bit to drink.” “This would be great for grilling your catch.” “I could use this on my apartment’s balcony.” “I wouldn’t use this alone, but I think it would be nice to use with my imaginary wife.”

The solo barbeque grill comes in red or black, the base made from steel and the grill net from stainless steel, and can be yours for 5,800 yen. Campers, fishers, and solo travelers, tell us- is this something you would use?

tell us- is this something you would use? . . .

Design seems very clean, never seen an attaché grill.

The only issue, wind? It seems the legs would answer that and maybe a bit of care.

The grill seems to have some storage space for coals?

If this works as well as it looks the opportunity to bring a clean grill would make it a popular choice. More Colors, please.

Err. no. You have to light the carcoal and then ensure it's doing an even burn. That can take some time and it's hit and miss. I've had a few duds among those brickets. Really frustrating.

They should have used gas.
