jon: you really think so? I thought it was utterly boring. Even by the end, when the teams starting scoring, I was way too tired to really get excited by what was happening.
Anyway, it's kind of sad that Japan gets to play the perfect Koreans next. I hope the Koreans win again, simply to show 'Hoshino Japan' and its fans that they have more work to do -- especially as major league players. Also, I don't think it would be fair for Japan to advance on the Koreans if they only lost one game, but Japan has lost three.

Japan's lost to all other 3 teams advancing to the semi-finals - the Koreans are going to be pretty annoyed if Japan pull off a repeat of the WBC.

Having a medal round seems pointless. Based on win/loss records there already is a first, second and third place team.

Give the Koreans (7-0) the title that they were robbed of at the WBC - World Champions.

Not pointless at all. All the teams knew beforehand that a top 4 place would put them into the playoffs.

World group stage champions maybe. Certainly not medal stage champions.

True dat. Since the IBOC decreed the BS extra-inning clause, a single round-robin, best-of-seven series should also have been implemented. That way according to today's win-loss records, Korea would be given the gold, Cuba the silver, the U.S. the bronze and Team Hosino Japan left looking at their shoes.

This is a non-argument. If it were a best of seven series then Japan and the US would not have rested players last night and previous games would have had a completely different meaning with different outcomes. Everyone here seems to be arguing with a 'what if'.

northlondon - point well taken.

This game was boring. There was nothing to play for. Unlike US, Japan rested their best pitchers while US went in and played as if this was their last game in their lives. I got news for you. USA. You were already through to the semi finals even with a loss so why sweat it.
It'll be just like a re cap of WBC with Japan and Cuba in the finals.

Where've you been mindyou? Took you this long to recover from last night's defeat?
Yup, at least these double-A minor leaguer kids really did play their hearts out, like they do every game they play...

mindyou - i remember seeing darvish pitch a few innings? isn't he japan's #1 pitcher?
they should do this like softball where the top 2 seeds can lose and still have a change (i.e japanese softball) to win it all.

The cream of Japan's professional baseball has their asses handed to them by group of AA-league U.S. players.
Too funny.

Well put, RomeoRamenII. Yes, I was surprised ot see Japan lose to a collection of US Minor leaguers. At any rate, it was a good game.

Mindyou calls EVERYONE Japan's top pitcher, until they fail and lose to another, superior team (which is everyone but Japan), then he says ANOTHER pitcher is the superior, who lost the first or second game.... his favourite pitchers read like the batting order. Unfortunately for him, it's a bunch of errors and fumbles (seriously, it's simple to trace back him calling Darvish the best, then saying Naruse, then when Naruse lost it, saying Iwase, then when Iwase lost it him saying 'they're resting their good picthers -- like Naruse'), but we all know mindyou is just on here joking around and pretending Japan is a decent team.
RR: I agree with you, FOR ONCE! Korea deserves both the World Baseball Classic titles, since they are the true champions, and the gold medal here.

Every pitcher is a batter. You seem to be overlooking that little fact.

Bottom line.
Iwase is out. He is not pitching any more for Hoshino Japan. Kawasaki is a solid batter but he is injured. HOwever the 2ryukan should be Kawasaki/Tsuyoshi. Nakajima at 3rd and not Murata. Arai at first. Inaba in my view sucks. Aoki in center and GG at left. Pitcher Darvish. Korea is history. Japan needs a better RF. Here Ichiro could have filled the spot. Matsui maybe left then Japan would be the world champions once more and for the rest of baseball history until doomsday.

In the playoff phase of the game, Team Hoshino loaded up the bases and failed to score any runs; proving they could not close the deal against a band of U.S. minor league players.
Go Korea. Show the world what frauds the players on Team Hoshino really are.
