The Brazilian crowds have really behaved quite poorly at the Olympics. I never saw any jeering or booing at the Sydney or London Games and I'm sure there'll be none at the Tokyo Games in 2020. I think Rio will go down as one of the worst Olympics, when you consider the jeering, athletes and visitors getting robbed, dirty pool water, and a few other glitches. Which is a shame because Brazil has such a wonderful culture.

Yes, it was rather boorish, and the Frenchman was within his rights to comment as he did. But, that said, elite athletes in all sports have to tune out the crowd, when the crowd has a favorite who isn't the one at the receiving end of the whistles and boos. That's sports culture.
