Japan volleyball matches need to played outside of the country. Women's volleyball seems to do well when playing on home courts in front of rabid "cha cha cha, Nippon" crowds and TV commentators.

But once they leave these shores their true ability (or, lack thereof) is displayed for all the world to see.

“I think we are playing good technically, physically and mentally,” Brazil’s Sheilla Castro said. “We are doing our best all around.”

Beautiful comments from a beautiful player, she alone was good enough to deaft J-team.

I notice the Jp Media, including JT, being very quiet on the men's side. The Jp men did not manage to win a single match.

Why Oh why has there been all this media focus on Japan's mens and womens volleyball teams ? They stink ! And they're not even good looking. Anybody else see the beauties on team Poland ? Sorry to moan but there was way too much tv time devoted to these two ducks ! And to think, we could have been watching a very entertaining basketball tournement, like the rest of the world !

How come beach volleyball isn't getting any, uh, exposure?

How come beach volleyball isn't getting any, uh, exposure?

Perhaps because the Japanese are out (and the Chinese are still in).

I didn't see this match but Japan looked good against the US even though they lost. Oh well, there's always next time.

Too bad, one bad thing is there'll be no more Saori-chan!

Princess, I am crying. I can't help it - my girls got beat!

Brazil's going to get their butts kicked by China, who kicked the Russians' butts 3-0.

I hope I'm wrong when I say that this means the end of volleyball coverage on Japanese TV.

Pukey - Unfortunately, you're probably right. We'll probably never see the Chinese women, who are the defending champions, show the Brazilian women that they are not invincible, or the Cuban women teaching the U.S. women a volleyball lesson.
OK, it's possible the Brazilians may beat China, as they beat them 2 out of 3 times in the past year, and it's possible the U.S. women may beat the Cubans if they play the game of their lives.
I'm going to predict that China will beat Cuba in the gold medal match, and Brazil will beat the U.S. for the bronze.

    Princess, I am crying.

Me too, Sarge, me too but not for the same thing as you. I am fan of Serbia.

Princess - If you are a fan of Serbia, then you must have been biting your nails during their match with Cuba.
Serbia put up a furious fight against Cuba, especially in the 1st and 3rd sets, losing 26-24 in each of those sets.
Also, I guess you're sore at the Russians for beating them 3-0. Could you watch any of the Serbian matches?
None were broadcast on Japanese TV since Japan didn't play them...

Pukey - I was wrong ( happens sometimes! ) - we will indeed get to see the volleyball semi-finals on NHK this afternoon and this evening.

Sarge, I was talking about Serbian men's volleyball team. USA - Serbia 3:2.

I can't believe this! Not that I'm unhappy about it, I'm not, I'm happy! The U.S. women just crushed the Cuban women 25-20, 25-16, 25-17! So, it's the U.S. vs the winner of the China-Brazil match for the gold medal. I'll be really ticked off if Brazil beats China in straight sets. I'm hoping for the opposite...

    Sarge

Well, I guess it's up to the U.S. to take even one set from the haughty Brazilians, after the Brazilians whipped China 3-0. OK, OK, they're not haughty, they're just superior.
I predict Brazil will beat the U.S. 3-0 to be the first team to not drop one set in the Olympics since the Japanese team in 1976 in Montreal. If they can do that, they'll be haughty for sure!

Congratulations to the Chinese on their bronze medal win over the Cubans.

Congratulations to the Brazilian women on their gold medal victory, and congratulations to the American women for being the only team to take a set from the Brazilians in this Olympics.
