Sounds like a group of college students on a drunken spree on a Friday night.....yes, disgraceful.

Seems it's not only Brazilian police but more importantly Lochte's mates Conger & Bentz who admitted the whole story had been fabricated. Could Lochte be extradited to Brazil?

Quite embarrassing really.

If there's any justice, Ryan Lochte will be radioactive as an endorser and celebrity from here on out. Smearing others to puff yourself up is not a good look.

What a dork, if he hadn't blabbed his mouth to NBC he probably would have gotten away with this.

So these girls made it all up? Wow. I'm guessing this is Trump's influence where lying to gain public attention has become the new norm for the average in the US. They should be prosecuted and spend some time in a comfy Brazilian jail

odious little creep...

What a coward, leaving his teammates hanging while fleeing like a thief

I hope the IOC strips Lochte of his medal for unsportsmanlike conduct off the field in the host country during the games. I was initially pleased when I heard he had won a gold medal and his unexpected victory against Phelps, not so much any more.

The remarks on news sites against Brazil as the host country were horrendous when word of the "armed robbery" first emerged. Lochte's intentional attempt to tarnish the host country's reputation should be dealt with sternly by the IOC.

The media is also to blame for fueling negative publicity for every little problem that has cropped up. Brazil deserves much more credit for doing a fine job in its first ever attempt to host the games. Brazil deserves the world's gratitude.

Amazing that these swimmers had to engage US embassy staff in a situation of their own drunken making.

Why not just pee behind the gas station in the first place, without breaking down doors, punching a sign (Lochte), and throwing around hush money when confronted by the guard and gas station owner.

Did the dummies really think Brazil is so backwards that it hasn't gotten around to installing security cameras that would disprove their whole bogus fairy tale?

Technically, the incident probably won't rise above a misdemeanor. There's no falsely reporting a crime since they never filed a crime report. They lied on TV, but by itself lying is not a crime. What could amount to a crime is destruction of property, but if the staff accepted the payment, then the police can't do much. So legally, there won't be much out of this - certainly no extraditions or anything over a misdemeanor. And AFAIK, the Olympics have never taken away medals for off-the-field actions that didn't affect what happens on the field.

However, what could hit hard are the sanctions from the US swimming federation - not in the legal sense, but rather for violating their own internal rules. Also in sponsorship money - sponsors would stay away if this is the last thing people remember about the athletes, instead of the medal wins.

Given the gravity of their claims and what it did to Brazil's reputation, and the fact that Lochte is STILL lying, they should have all their medals stripped and be banned from competing in at least the near future. Of course, given that they are America's future in swimming, and with Phelps leaving the sport, they NEVER will do any of that (already they are saying, "Heh... just kids being kids... hehe...!"), but that's what SHOULD be done. And yes, Lochte is a coward for running like he did.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Turns out foreigners are dangerous to Brazil and not the other way around. These bozos should at the very least be severely reprimanded in the U.S. and brought up on charges in Brazil. Lochte really thought that story would wash?

The ugly Americans abusing their hosts-disgraceful!!!!

another pathetic case of affluenza

I pity the fool!... actually no I don't. They're gonna get what's coming to them even back in the US because due to their antics they've caused a PR problem for the US in diplomacy between Brazilian law enforcement.

Mostly the Brazilians just want an apology from the offenders. But until they get one, the grudge will remain.
