Can't win them all, but the Olympics seem particularly evasive for Djokovic. Oh well, with the exit of the Joker and several other big names already, and with Federer out, it gives a lot of up and coming players as well as those with less ability a chance at the gold.

smithinjapan, for once you got a laugh out of me, nice one :)

he acknowledged: “I didn’t expect to beat Novak tonight.”

And that may be why del Potro won. Headspace is so important in top sport, and after all his troubles and coming back, del Potro may have that part of his game just right. Would be great for him if he can now make his way through to the semis and contend for the gold.

fxgai: del Potro has also got an edge on him at the Olympics; if the two meet again in 2020 (assuming both are also still playing) Djokovic, no matter how hard he tries, is going to be thinking he has some voodoo curse against him at the Games with this guy. On regular grounds he may well rule, but the man is not perfect after all, and at the Games it seems no one rules any more than anyone else. del Potro can just think, "I own this guy here... this is my land".

So many major upsets on just the first day!

What are they serving down there in Rio?! lol
