pretty harsh, the girl touched the bottom by accident and immediately removed her foot and got no advantage from it, if anything she lost her momentum.
I always remember them using the diving pool for synchro so things like that didn't happen.
'Tis a bit too dainty for me, this sport, but I know that the Japanese women did their best, and that this was not the result many expected (NOT only Japanese). Good job. Too bad about the finish, but 5th is nothing to be shy about.
I agree with you, it's not a "sport" that ranks anywhere near the top of my list in interest... but I'll give credit to them for trying as hard as they do. (all countries)
Got pretty surprised to see one of the Japanese women pass out after the routine and to see everyone rush to save her... but they almost all had smiles on their faces, cheering her on...
Actually I think it's interesting to watch, because of all the difficulties involved, and probably fun to do if you can do all that stuff. Yes, I also heard that it was the first time Japan did not win a medal, so they've done well up till now.
Once again, the media was too busy focusing on China, even more than on the top 2 teams. You have to wonder, had China placed last, would the media have been happy if Japan placed second to last. On the news, they showed both teams practising in the same pool at the same time. I laughed when the newsreader remarked that the Chinese coach, who used to be the Japanese coach, totally ignored the Japanese team. Come on, just because she used to be the Japanese coach doesn't mean she still is. She's paid to coach the Chinese. Is she supposed to wave to the Japanese, while she coaches the Chinese?
Hoserfella - Synchronized Swimming is a very serious sport. Why dont you try to do what they do in the water and then we can talk? Japanese have always been in the top 3. This is a very sad day for the Japanese synchro team.
Got to tell you folks, yeah it is tough to do what they do. But playing Marco Polo is also a tough water sport. Try closing your eyes and finding someone who is yelling Polo in a pool.
I myself sat down and said,"Ok, I am going to watch this and see what I really think,". My first impression was, tough holding your breath that long while moving, yeah. Well after a few minutes watching I could not help myself any longer and I began to laugh. When they started with the leg kicks and Flipper jumps. I started LMAO, this was too bloody funny.
Then they started showing recaps, and the laughter got loader. I think my neighbors heard me felt bad after but hell I had a great laugh. I thought I was watching a gay day parade with all the women who looked like drag queens.
The moment the Russian drag queens started walking out that is when I started to cry from all the laughing.
This is not a sport that deserves to be in the Olympics. Baseball, Gymnastics, Soccer, Volleyball, Weight lifting, Track and Field these are sports.
Synchronized swimming is hard but this does not deserve to be in the Olympics.
The girls are very thin but they eat a lot because beating their legs in the air with the head down in the water is very exhausting. their daily intake of food and drinks exceeds even Mike Phelps' daily menu. I think practising 8 hours a day in the pool, without breathing much is quite hard.
I wish to correct something in my post. I thought the team synchronized swimming was the funniest and maybe the biggest waste to any Olympic sport.
But alas I was mistake............... I laughed more at the moronic Gymnastics Rhythmic 3 Hoops + 2 Clubs. Not this was a bigger waste of air time.
Now why are sports like Gymnastics Rhythmic 3 Hoops + 2 Clubs and the ever popular Gymnastics Rhythmic 5 Ropes (I think this used to be call Double Dutch) and how can I ever forget Drag Queen team synchronized swimming even in the Olympics?
Hell if they tossed in a Great White in the pool I may find synchronized swimming that much more appealing. Or just when the girls throw one of those hoops they release an angry Rodeo Bull. Yeah now those would be fun sports to watch at the Olympics.
I personally believe that those types of displays should stay with Cirque du Soleil instead of being in the Olympics. But these new sports were voted in by the IOC, and the IOC is never wrong with ther picks, right?

a ridiculous "sport". How can anyone take this seriously with these girls running around looking like Tammy Faye Baker on Qualudes?

Not so sure wy everyone is against synchronized swimming. It is a tough sport that few outside can appreciate.

I think they should have men's synchronized swimming, but apparently the men aren't tough enough.
"Marco Polo is also a tough water sport"
They should definitely include Marco Polo in the Olympics.
