I felt terrible for him but doesn't he know something wrong with his body? why run, take a break ;your body ,your health first.

I wonder if the pressure got to him. This injury just might be window dressing...

I don't know. But he hasn't been in good condition for a long time. I just hope his countrymen don't lay into him. And I'm a bit p*ssed at the people who said that all his past achievements would mean nothing if he didn't win in Beijing. Most people will never forget his gold at Athens.

As I said before... there have been injuries and disappointments with every country, in every event. It's always said, and it HAS to suck to work so hard and wait so long, but them's the breaks. Chin up, my friend, and work hard for the next time.

this guy would have run into Turkish machine gun nests at Gallipoli for his country. Its just that he could not run. I am sad for him.
hoserfella,
have you seen a Chinese athlete not give their all? the medal table speaks for itself. Your comment is a waste of font.

"a sign of recognition of the athlete’s popularity in China."
Not anymore!! The whole nation suddenly called him a traitor and a coward. And suggested he'd better run in the Paralympics.
Nice fans them Chinese!

Liu absence caused loss of a medal for China.
Team China has no worries in forging ahead in all disciplines of sports/tech to 1st positions.
In many sport disciplines in olympics 2008 like former russia did in past olympic, they have got most gold medal(1st positions).
The results of olympics 2008, only makes china better in all disciplines for further economic sucess.

romulus- you're naive to dismiss the fact that the guy had 1.3 billion people (who would have accepted nothing less than gold) breathing down his neck, and risked the loss of untold millions in endorsments had he lost.
