I think i would prefer to see quirky than state controlled with fake special effects. I have faith in London doing a good job in 2012.

I agree. I feel London will bring in a more homegrown feeling to the Olympics with less of the fakery and will be more in line with the real spirit of the Olympics. I was getting tired of the fake special effects, lip synching, and oppression of the press as well as the oppression of peaceful protests.

"I feel London will bring in a more homegrown feeling to the Olympics with less of the fakery and will be more in line with the real spirit of the Olympics."

Honestly now ! London is already off to a very embarrassing start. Who in admiral halseys good name thought it would be a good idea to have David Beckam represent the city of London by steppeing off a bus and kicking a football into the crowd ? Fact is England/the UK hasn't fielded a football team at the Olympics since 1964. The main reason being that England and the rest of the UK simply don't get along. They are not "united" enough to even slap together a simple squad to play in the Olympics. too many egos, too much pride, and way too many viscious ugly games between the nations to even consider a team to represent the UK. Now, is this "in line with the real spirit of the Olympics" ? I dare say no ! England better get its collective poop together real quick. Another snafu like this and the world will be questioning the IOC's decision again.

Will they have cute singers at the opening ceremony?

I really hope so. I just hope that they are singing live and not lip synching it.

The quirky party of this London Olympics handover was much better than all the fake effects of the Beijing Olympics version.

All in all, I'm sure the coverage of the London Olympics will be much better. Maybe it's best to go to London in person, since that is the only way I'll be getting "live coverage of the 2012 Olympic games.

Well I just hope someone like Ken Livingstone is back by then. The current mayor of London was absolutely scruffy and looked as if he didn't know what the hell was going on at the closing ceremony.
