Phelps is getting all the headlines now that Thorpe is retired. The story is all about Phelps rather than the competition with Thorpe this time around. I am just amazed by this guy, he just keeps breaking records.

FINALLY the US gets a gold in shooting.

Triple888, is that jealousy I'm reading!!!!! Who cares if he's freaky so are alot of other competitors in the Asian and European realm but that's not what makes you win medals, now does it???

Michael Phelps, China gymnasts team dominate 2008 olympics. They worked for it.

rajakumar, I agree. These are top notch atheletes.

Who's the 41 year old woman swimming for the US? Would he complain ab out here, also.

Anyone who complains about these folks, who have busted their butts, probably can't swim across a pool to begin with. < :-)

Seems like Pathat is only interested in mentioning who's better than Japan. Pathetic!

FYI Pathat, even with a 6 to 5 advantage for DPRK, Japan is still ranked higher in the standings. Why? Gold, Pathat!! Gold. Same reason why China is ranked higher than the US.

It must be disconcerting for the Japanese-to say the least-that Japan has only 7 medals so far. After swimming and judo are finished, it will be mighty slim pickins for the Japanese, roomtemperature. Baseball, softball, a few wrestling medals, Koji Murofushi in the hammer throw....

North Korea has 7, and South Korea is rakinem in with 12 total medals.

Congratulations to the Koreans so far. Great work!

Actually, roomtemperature, I commend the Chinese and their many wonderful performances thus far. They sure did clean up the mats with the U.S. women today in gymnastics.

"Japan has only 7 medals so far"

After the Japanese women out-spike the giant Polish women tonight, they'll be well on their way to a medal. Maybe.

  • Sarge at 07:22 AM JST - 14th August

Well, Japan got past Poland after playing around in the 3rd and 4th sets. I'll bet the Polish women actually thought they were going to win the 5th set and the match after coming back to win sets 3 and 4 ha ha ha!
Great match, but not as great as the match between Cuba and China, in which China made the mistake of ticking off the Cubans by whipping them 25-18 in the first set, and then whipping them even worse in the 2nd set 25-14.
The Cubans came roaring back with a vengeance to take the next 3 sets, 25-23, 32-30, 15-13!
Good thing I don't rely on Japanese TV broadcasts for information on matches in which the Japanese are not participating LOL...

  • roomtemperature at 09:30 AM JST - 14th August

Sarge, Japan won't make it far. Again and again they make too many stupid amateur errors.

  • Sarge at 02:34 PM JST - 15th August

Last night the Japanese men's volleyball team took two sets from the Chinese.

Tonight the Japanese women are going to play the match of their lives to beat the high-flying Cubans! Either that, or they're going to be totally humiliated by the Cubans!
Hey, if they can beat the Cubans, who beat the Chinese, they can beat the Chinese Sunday!

  • JoeBigs at 03:02 PM JST - 15th August

For some unknown reason the Japanese V-ball teams chokes at the right moment. They have this thing where they love to take it to the end then blow it. The Mens team is worse! Darn good players but they can not finish it.

  • Sarge at 03:13 PM JST - 15th August

I see one of the Russian women beach volleyball players refused to acknowledge their defeat to the Brazilian-born Georgian women, saying, "We didn't really play against the Georgian team, we played against our Brazilian friends."

  • Sarge at 08:24 AM JST - 16th August

Well, the Cubans were pushed by the Japanese in the 2nd and 3rd sets, but they prevailed. I guess they're going to humiliate the Venezuelans tomorrow. I see China lost to the USA. Since Japan took a set from the USA, they could possibly beat China tomorrow, but I wouldn't bet on it.

  • Sarge at 11:37 PM JST - 17th August

The Chinese women humiliated the Japanese women today. Though they barely won the first set 26-24, the Japanese simply imploded in the next two sets. I guarantee the Chinese won't get the gold medal. They could possibly get the silver or bronze, but they won't get the gold.
