If he's doing it clean, then he's really good. Nobody talks about the possibility of him being on drugs though...

Actually, no one talks about it because it isn't even a possibility. He is one of the most tested athletes in history, and has always kept himself available for any type of testing, even going as fas as to save blood for years in case a new kind of stricter testing is invented.

Give the guy his props, and just respect it. He is doing it, and we shouldn't tarnish it with carless rumors speculations.

Swimmers should get plastic surgery to stand a chance of beating him.

Agree with franknbeans here. There is a big difference between somebody who suddenly got fast (ie. Ben Johnson, or that Irish swimmer woman from Barcelona or Atlanta) and somebody who has always been fast. And Phelps didn't just get fast all of a sudden. Nothing wrong with being skeptical, but maybe he really is this good. And if he is, he deserves all the attention he is getting.

Congratulations to Michael Phelps -- probably the greatest Olympic athlete ever, AND he is over 16 -- that's more than we can say for some of the Chinese gymnasts...

    Speaking of surgery -

Soni’s victory came ..... two summers after Soni underwent a minor heart operation.

    Now that is amazing.

Great athlete. I'm always amazed that world records continue to be broken. Will athletes keep evolving until they can swim 50 metres in 1 second?

You have to wonder when Michael Phelps will stop doing the impossible. The man is amazing we all have to admit.

Still credit must go to so many other swimmers for they are also swimming faster they in the past. It is sort of like a miracle, but Michael Phelps is the leader of all of this, for is must be rubbing off from him.

Ha ha! Someone commented above mentioning Phelps and doping in the same sentence.

    Show us proof!

The guy is a monster, I guess if he was Japanese he would have been called a genius, the ease with which the word "Genius" is associated to sportsmen win mediocre achievements is very worrying.
