Imagine how fired up this will make Michael Phelps for his last race. I pity the fools who'll be in that wake.

Princess - Phelps beat the Serbian guy by 1/100th of a second. In competitive swimming, one hundreth of a second is a lifetime. You must respect him!

Sarge, the Serbian guy is my hero who beat Phelps.

Princess - The judges say my hero Phelps won. You'll have to take it up with them.

Um, When I watched medals being awarded and saw all the replays, I saw Phelps win and I saw the Serbian get a silver medal. Why is it people are so angry with Phelps superior abilities and training.

I have been watching this site for some time, and it really seems that many of the posters here a attempting to be revisionsits while history is still occuring.

Please can someone explain this for me?

Phelps is a winner because he listens to rap music on his ipod until 2 minutes before the race. I'm going to start doing that before I play my friend who always beats me in badminton.

Cavic had no words. Clearly perturbed at getting beaten by a fingertip, he stormed past reporters in the mixed zone without stopping.

Oooer. Was that another sulky silver, then?

    Well done Becky Adlington.

I'm afraid you are simply denying the truth that your Serbian hero lost this one.

So sad, Sarge, so sad...today is very bad day indeed! Butterfly swimming is the swimming that requires the most power and technique and it was obvious that the Serbian guy has more power, strength, speed and is more technical than Phelps. It is a real misfortune that because of a technical fault Phelps was awarded gold medal. :( so sad

For heaven's sake will you give it up? Michael Phelps has/does not use illegal performance enhancing drugs and he didn't finish second in this race. He finished first. I don't know what you have against this superb athlete. Even the Serbs (after initially protesting and forcing FINA to review the video) have accepted the fact that Phelps touched the wall first, but I guess you know better is that it? Milorad Cavic turned out not to be a sore loser but evidently the same can't be said for you.

From the full AP story on Yahoo news:

The Serbian delegation filed a protest, but conceded that Phelps won after reviewing the tape provided by FINA, swimming’s governing body. USA Swimming spokeswoman Jamie Olsen said the tape was slowed to one frame every 10-thousandth of a second to make sure Phelps actually touched first.

It was impossible to tell on regular-speed replays.

“We filed the protest but it is already over,” said Branislav Jevtic, Serbia’s chief of mission for all sports. “They examined the video and I think the case is closed. The video says (Phelps) finished first.

“In my opinion, it’s not right, but we must follow the rules. Everybody saw what happened.”

FINA referee Ben Ekumbo of Kenya said there was no doubt who won after a review of the super-slow replay.

“It was very clear that the Serbian swimmer touched second after Michael Phelps,” he said. “One was stroking and one was gliding.”

i write what I think about the competition in 100 m butterfly!!!

And since what you say is equally as wrong as what you type, we believe you.

If you're not concerned with looking like a complete fool then go right ahead...

I watched the race myself. If you go by the video you're going to be misguided.

Exprinceska, there are sensors that determine who touches the wall first. The judges not only had to go by video but by what the sensors showed. The Serbs protested and after the match they even went through to the ones the technicians in charge of reading those sensors. Whether you like it or not, Phelps won fair and square even though it was by a hair thin margin. That Serbian was VERY close but during the last few seconds he chose to glide to the finish where as Phelps kept pushing until he hit the wall. I think he would have won if he just kept pushing too but he didn't.

Anyone here remember Matt Biondi and Antony Nesty of Suriname? this is a real case of Dejavu.

In the 1988 Olympics in the same race - the 100 butterfly. The US hero Biondi, glided the last 50cms and was pipped by 0.01 secs by a better timed stroke at the finish by the massive underdog Nesty. B.T.W - A full two seconds slower than yesterdays race

    Pretty freaky.
