Phelps has won 11th gold medals, that is enough to make 11 nations of world very happy.
He should consider coaching for other nations, struggling to get one swimming medal since olympic swimming began.
11 gold medals for USA,make him number one olympic athlete, of the world today.

Of course he is going to have to learn to control those long victory yells before he can claim any cudos for his accomplishments.

He will never pass Mark Spitz in the pantheon of Olympic swimmers until he grows a cool guy porn mustache like Spitz had.

I hear Spitz is miffed because no one invited him to come and watch Phelps break his record in person.

I saw an interview with Spitz and he was quite miffed over all the talk of Phelps breaking his record. He said that the man would have to do it in the pool........well it's not done yet, but the man is doing it in the pool.

Has this phelps ever been tested for doping?

Princess, everybody in the Olympics gets tested, it's routine.
I agree with Taka, he'd look better with a tache.

Some of the althletes volunteered for extra testing of dope and Phelps is one of them...... so what he has earned he earned without any help from substances.....

Why would they do that? Because they use a virtually undetectable substance?

Why? Oh I don't know, probably to shut up detractors (like some above) who baselessly and repeatedly imply that they may have cheated because of their superior performance...

Phelps won because he swims faster than anyone. But the greatest athlete in the history of the Olympics? It somehow sounds fishy. Not that I hold anything against his great accomplishments. Outside of swimming, does he partake of other styles of training like running, weight lifting, etc? I'm sure his personal life will come out in books and stories from now on so we can all learn the real dope (slang for truth) about it.

Yet another great day to be an American!

Apparently roughly twice as many athletes failed drugs tests in the lead-up to the Beijing Games as did in the lead-up to Athens - 37 as opposed to 19. This doesn't mean that more athletes are using drugs, but that the testing methods are getting better.
I hope none of those lucky enough to have a chance of competing in the Olympics would be stupid enough to negate their own achievement by taking drugs.

Congrats to Phelps. He's humble and determined and a great ambassador for the US.
