Well done to Masato Uchishiba. I hope there is a replay because I live on the other side of the globe so w/the time difference I miss out on a lot of the important games!
Nakamura, a 19-year-old Olympic debutante, saved her best for her third-place tussle with South Korea’s Kim Kyung Ok and had the better of her opponent before pinning her for ippon
This Nakamura Misato is one fired up little bird that looked and sounded pretty disappointed with anything less than gold. Someone needs to put a smile back on her face, and I think I'm just the man to do it.
Does this mean that the government will buy him a new house or offer him some extravagant prize for the gold medal he won?
there is no such thing as government prize mate. In Japan, athletes shoulder all training expenses (unless they got sponsors once they become famous) and after they win they will be given a pat at the back. Maybe they will have some TV exposure once in a while but thats it.
If anyone saw footage of Uchishiba calling out to his child in the stands, that was the closest he got! Then his wife and son got on a plane back to Japan! What is up with these people?! Dysfunctional or just weird.
Nakamura is still peeved about her lowly bronze and is in need of consolation.
the repeats have already taken air-time over other live events for the past couple of hours!).
several times yesterday there was the same thing on 2 channels!
It happened with Judo, Badminton, Soccer.
NHK-G NHK-BS1 and Fuji were all broadcasting at the same time.
If Fuji is showing the badminton there is no need for NHK-BS to be showing it too! the same badminton match on 2 channels!
BS has been great showing the most with most variety, but they are the channel that should be always showing the 'other' stuff.
p.s. if you want to see non traditional Japanese events watch BS1 in the early hours of the morning you can see archery, cycling etc.

That's absolutely not true. Many companies "employ" workers who are actually semi-pro athletes either on company teams or in individual sports. These are not the famous athletes either because the famous ones don't need this patronage. While it's true that the number of employee / athletes has decreased due to a bad economy it still happens and often.

Thanks for the picture of Uchishiba but where is the picture of Nakamura Misato, her angry face and sullen expression.

Very true. Tani Ryoko was sponsered by Toyota if I recall.

Uchishiba is a member of Asahi Kasei's judo club, which has about 30 athletes and staff, including several other winning judoka.
