Just hope his opponent has recovered.

Good job, Uchishiba, and well earned. I'm just sorry we're never going to hear the end of it for the next 4 years (the repeats have already taken air-time over other live events for the past couple of hours!).

Smithinjapan really knows how to exaggerate. For the past couple of hours I've been seeing swimming and now badminton. Judo has finished...haven't seen it for a couple of hours. Or are you playing back?

good for him. I missed it, reckon they'll play it again?

exactly my thoughts, Uchishiba almost killed him.

His opponent was fine, walking about and accepted his medal with no problems. This isn't tiddlywinks, boys. It's a contact sport.

Uchishiba - strong athlete, handsome guy, the perfect man, great judoka! Oh, I was so happy for him, second time gold medalist, the hero of Japan and me!

My prince is judoka Uchishiba. He was fierce and fervent, almost killed his French adversary and even he did not notice the French guy was in pain and was tapping on the tatami with his hand, asking for interruption of the game. Not very good sportsmanship but the gold medal above all, that is what Japan wants!

Thanks for the picture of Uchishiba but where is the picture of Nakamura Misato, her angry face and sullen expression.

Princess - Heck, that was the first judo match I've ever seen in which there was a clear-cut victory!
"almost killed his French adversary"
He did not. His French adversary only did what was expected of him ha ha ha!

Well done to Masato Uchishiba. I hope there is a replay because I live on the other side of the globe so w/the time difference I miss out on a lot of the important games!

Does this mean that the government will buy him a new house or offer him some extravagant prize for the gold medal he won?

It's symbolic isn't it.

perhpas not, but he has secured life-time employment with local Tv channel(s) for sure.

This Nakamura Misato is one fired up little bird that looked and sounded pretty disappointed with anything less than gold. Someone needs to put a smile back on her face, and I think I'm just the man to do it.

there is no such thing as government prize mate. In Japan, athletes shoulder all training expenses (unless they got sponsors once they become famous) and after they win they will be given a pat at the back. Maybe they will have some TV exposure once in a while but thats it.

Well done, Uchishiba, sterling performance in judo. Congrats to your 2nd gold in olympics.

If anyone saw footage of Uchishiba calling out to his child in the stands, that was the closest he got! Then his wife and son got on a plane back to Japan! What is up with these people?! Dysfunctional or just weird.
Nakamura is still peeved about her lowly bronze and is in need of consolation.

several times yesterday there was the same thing on 2 channels! It happened with Judo, Badminton, Soccer.
NHK-G NHK-BS1 and Fuji were all broadcasting at the same time. If Fuji is showing the badminton there is no need for NHK-BS to be showing it too! the same badminton match on 2 channels! BS has been great showing the most with most variety, but they are the channel that should be always showing the 'other' stuff.
p.s. if you want to see non traditional Japanese events watch BS1 in the early hours of the morning you can see archery, cycling etc.

mikihouse: In Japan, athletes shoulder all training expenses (unless they got sponsors once they become famous)
That's absolutely not true. Many companies "employ" workers who are actually semi-pro athletes either on company teams or in individual sports. These are not the famous athletes either because the famous ones don't need this patronage. While it's true that the number of employee / athletes has decreased due to a bad economy it still happens and often.

Very true. Tani Ryoko was sponsered by Toyota if I recall.

Uchishiba is a member of Asahi Kasei's judo club, which has about 30 athletes and staff, including several other winning judoka.
