Fall fashion in Japan – making it your own
TOKYO —
Fall is well underway. The cool breezes bring along vibrant leaves, the smell of autumn cuisine, and a chill that demands warmer clothing.
Finally, we can take our fall clothing out of storage and add a few new pieces to our wardrobes to embrace the freshness of autumn.
In the land of all things cute, Japanese fashion is always fun, fresh and feminine. This fall season’s looks are no exception.
Behold fall fashion: long blazers and short bottoms. From the runway to the streets, warm layers have warmed up the season while retaining the playfulness of summer’s shorts and skirts.
Make this season’s fashion your own by adding clever accessories and a splash of color. Need ideas? Here’s a few to get you started:
Legwarmers and knee socks, the staples of cute, feminine outfits worn by Japanese women, can personalize any outfit; mix eye-catching colors and patterns with plain shorts or skirts.
A very popular look now is a long blazer layered over a nice shirt, paired with shorts and boots. Don’t forget the ruffled socks peeking over the top.
For those who prefer skirts, try a masculine blazer over a colored mini-skirt and ruffled top.
However you decide to pull off this season’s looks, be sure to have fun while you make it your own. So don’t put away your summer wares just yet. Pull on those colored jean shorts, throw on a dark, long blazer and your favorite graphic tee. Tug on a pair of boots and walk out the door into the autumn breeze and warm sunshine.

Colorful knitwear and ponchos seem to be the hit this season. Reminds me a bit of the old hippie days. Wear leggings with legwarmers, a thin dress over it topped with a woolen long sweater with a wool scarf and a woolen hat and you will be on the go.

Just start with short short skirts and go from there.

Anyone who advocates the wearing of knee length socks with skirts in adult women needs to be shot. And colored jean shorts, a long dark blazer and a graphic t-shirt? Youd look like you got dressed in the dark!
I am all for this seasons look of short shorts/skirts, boots, shaped blazers and pretty tops underneath - but with a little coordination and class, please!

not everybody out there is over 40 years old Nicky...graphic tees and colored pants/shorts or whatever will look just fine together if the colors match and coordinate just like any other outfit.

Who said anything about over 40 Usagito? I was thinking anyone over 15!
