Hmm, an article was pulished in the "Economist" this week commented on the lack of any global warming for the last 16 years. If there has not been any global warming, then global warming can't be causing excessively cold winters can it? This new argument is as absurd as saying that eating too little can make you fat, or that not carrying an umbrella in the rain will keep you dry.

The IPCC has funded 20 computer models to predict changes to the climate over the next century. Without exception, all of these models predict significant warming. The only problem is that not one of these vastly expensive computer models has proven accurate. Not a single one of these reports predicted that there would be no global warming over the last 16 years, which is currently the case.

Recent studies now indicate that CO2 may have a far less significant effect on global warming than previously thought, one study says that CO2's influence was overestimated by a factor of 2. Other studies show the increased possibility that the warm years of the 90's were not influenced by greenhouse gases in any way.

Regardless of the studies, or what you believe, the obvious fact is that there has been no warming whatsoever for nearly two decades, and as such is the case, global warming cannot be causing the recent cold weather the world has been experiencing.

Only leftist liberals can take ANY data at all and show that it supports their cause.

All computer models that predict warming are based on assumptions, and therefore circular.

one of the biggest assumptions is that CO2 is causing warming, and the obverse is considered heresy.

Wherever there's money and power at stake, you'll find the left clamoring for both, in order to "save" the earth.

The good news is that "global warming" isn't much of a concern any more, so they are finding less and less support.

Sangetsu03 & gaijinfo That's what research is about. Understanding what is happening, correct the models and predictions. If you don't understand what a theory is, read the definition. If you don't agree, which is fine, come with counter arguments. Leftist conspiracy isn't one by the way, gaijinfo.

This shows how easy it is to 'hindcast' the past but how difficult it is to forecast the future.

PeaceWarriorAPR. 01, 2013 - 12:49PM JST This shows how easy it is to 'hindcast' the past but how difficult it is to forecast the future.

The problem is that these erroneous IPCC studies cost taxpayers untold billions of dollars. Next, the policies which are implemented because of these erroneous reports end up costing billions more. The weather cannot be predicted more than a few days in advance, yet IPCC "scientists" attempt to predict the weather decades in advance, and their word is taken as the gospel. And when the weather (climate) fails to follow their predictions, they aren't taken to task.

When 2000 people died a few years ago from hot weather in the UK, the nearly immediate response was to try to reduce GHG emmissions by increasing the cost of petroleum-based fuels, which in turn reduces comsumption of these fuels. The strategy worked, but as a result, now more than 30,000 people in the UK are dying from the cold each winter, mainly because they cannot afford to heat their homes. Is this irony or stupidity?

Sangetsu03: so, it's only about money? Studies costs untold billions? What are the sources, based on what? Glenn Becks calculus?

As with all climate questions, the answer is...probably yes in some places and probably no in other places.

Northern Japan has been reporting mid-term increases in averag annual snowfall, and these are projected to continue or intensify. Also, the snow season is predicted to start later and end later, which will have implications for the growing season.

Global Warming? Amazing, they are still trying to keep this myth alive.

Only an idiot could look at the escalating string of weather-related disasters in the last decade and keep saying that nothing is wrong with the weather. We have excellent data going back half a century and progressively less reliable data going back centuries before that. The pattern is clear though, the weather is getting more and more extreme.

Frankly I don't care much about the precise cause, I leave that to academics, and I understand how something as complex as planet-wide weather patterns might be a tad difficult to predict with even 50% accuracy (we cut economists considerable slack when their guesses are completely off base, and economics is a man-made system that is considerably simpler than something as insanely complex as weather).

The facts are pretty simple: 1. Weather is getting worse. 2. We know that the polar ice caps are melting at an alarming rate, and that this is almost certainly a large contributing factor. 3. We are producing way too much pollution in a staggering variety of forms, and these are causing deaths and crippling disabilities in a large portion of the world's population, particularly in 3rd world countries. 4. We CAN fix these problems, but it'll cost the developed countries a lot of money in the short-term... but a LOT more money in the long term.

Given the facts the solution is obvious. Take action now. Bickering like children over who's fault it is in the hopes that it will become the next generation's cost to bear, is just staggeringly immature and short-sighted.

Except that there has been no increase in storms or other strange weather. We have had nothing in America to compare with the great "dust bowl" of the 1930's, and there has been no hurricane to hit north America which matched the great Galveston hurricane of 1900. 7 years ago the hurricane center in Miami predicted that there would be a increase in the number of upper-category storms, but, in fact, the opposite happened, and fewer major storms have occurred.

The story mentions the depletion of arctic ice, while failing to mention that antarctic ice has accumulated to record amounts. Anyone see the news story a few months ago which showed a large pod of killer whales which were trapped when sea ice accumulated too quickly for them to escape? I suppose the rapidly freezing seas were also caused by global warming.

I am sick of being lied to by alarmists who are nothing but charlatans who promelgate psuedo-science for personal profit. Entire institutions have been founded and funded to study and solve a problem which mounting evidence shows to be non-existent.

You do know that the animals on North America alone produce more greenhouse gases than all the world's human civilizations combined, right?

I still don't know why we're basing any conclusions on our climate modeling capability. Ask any semi-intelligent statistician and they'll tell you that our climate models are the worst models of any field of study by an unbearably large margin. We can't even tell you what the weather is going to be like tomorrow, let alone 10 years from now.

When 2000 people died a few years ago from hot weather in the UK...

You're thinking of 2003, the year the UK experienced its highest ever recorded temperature.

as a result, now more than 30,000 people in the UK are dying from the cold each winter, mainly because they cannot afford to heat their homes.

That is not true. I imagine you're thinking of this news report, or one like it - http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/386748/30-000-could-die-from-extreme-cold - warning that up to 30,000 could die because of the extreme cold gripping the country this winter. Not because they cannot afford their normal heating bills, but because this year the country is experiencing a blast of extreme cold. The BBC is reporting hundreds of dead sheep and lambs in N Wales buried under 15ft snow drifts - would you suggest they died because they couldn't pay their fuel bills, too?

    Is this irony or stupidity?

In your case, it appears to be twisting news reports to make them say what you want them to say. Taking reports of extreme weather and trying to use them as 'mounting evidence' that there is no extreme weather is ironic, and also rather stupid.

Global Warming is a media headline. Actual scientists study Global Climate Change. I would point out that even the EPA under the Bush Administration eventually accepted Global Climate Change as a reality towards the end of his second term. The Koch brothers hired Richard Muller, a reputable scientist who was a Global Climate Change skeptic, to conduct one of the largest studies of Global Climate Change ever done. In 2011 he released the Koch brothers funded study and concluded Global Climate Change was indeed happening.

The last hold out of any standing that resisted was the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. They updated their position to match the international consensus in 2007.

Neil deGrasse Tyson once summed up the "controversy" on climate change as such: "People are entitled to their own opinions, but they aren't entitled to their own set of facts."

Is all the dust and floating pigs from China causing harsher Winters? Childish threats from Korea(s)? Inflation threats from BoJ? Radiation? The almighty evil CO2 that plants need. The Sun god. -Everyone has their own theories in seems.

I am thankful for the seasons and weather and hopefully Gov will not try to screw this one up (chemtrails/weather modification/Haarp). I don't think spraying human-toxic nano-metals on the populace is the answer (Ethylene Dibromide, Aluminum, Barium) and these metals tend to jam the root systems of plants.
