Two cheers for Erdogan: Europe hopes and fears after coup bid

Word on the street is that this was a fake coup, designed by Erdogan himself to consolidate his power. He's already purging the military, judges etc.

Not unlike Hitler did before his rise.

Cheers? That would depend on who you're asking.

Cheers? Are we cheering his steering the country away from secularism toward an Islamic state? Are we cheering the encroachment of rights, and the erosion of democracy? If so, cheer on.

I know Turkey has the EU over a barrel due to the refugee crisis but really, the EU must stop flirting with Erdogan, he is a crook.
