'China is the biggest source of greenhouse gas pollution, pumping out about a quarter of the worlds emissions' The key indicator of per capita range in China is still far lower than the USA.

This agreement targets the CO2 in metric tonnes per capita rate^, a figure far more useful for an integral worldview.

The means absolutely nothing, just like the Kyoto Protocol meant absolutely nothing. The Kyoto Protocol has been abandoned, the members pulling out, or not renewing their commitments once the threat of financial penalties become a possibility. Added to all of this is that it seems that the world has stopped becoming warmer, so it is getting harder to sell climate change as a serious threat to the world.

Last week the all time cold weather records for November were broken in all the main cities in my home state. This was supposed to have been impossible, with the world getting warmer and all. Hurricanes are at a record low level, deadly tornadoes and other dangerous weather events are also occurring less than they used to. This is also contrary to the numerous predictions made just a few years ago.

If the world actually starts to become warmer again, perhaps there will be some serious action taken. But if such is not the case, what is the point?

@sangetsu03 The science is clear and against you. Only energy company shills still argue the issue that climate change is real.

Um, no. If the world overall is getting warmer, it doesn't mean that every place is getting warmer too. It is not at all impossible that some places could still become colder - it's just that other places are getting warmer than some places are getting colder.

Ex: if all the northern hemisphere gets colder by 10 degrees, but all the southern hemisphere gets wamer by 20 degress, then guess what, overall the planet just got warmer.

Really? Have you read the "science"? The 1996 report claimed we would see up to .6 degrees warmer weather by 2014, how much warming occurred? None at all. Last October was the 18th year with no increase in temperatures.

@sangetsu

"Last October " wasn't a year; not sure what your point is.

The seas are absorbing the heat more efficiently than was predicted, that's all. When the seas can't take any more, we're going to get the lot.

For the record, this year in the UK has been the hottest ever recorded, ever.

All this means is Chinese and American government are colluding on the Co2 based global warming scam being done by so called scientists and politicians for the purpose of obtaining money and power. My guess is the green companies in the US and China, which are owned by politicians and their paid for scientists, are going to be used as excuses to funnel money. Either tax money as subsidies or laws forcing the use of these products. Since zero science is involved What happens is when Chinese and american politicians want more money or to impose any regulation, they will all now have a consensus on the amount of co2 and it's effects. If the politicians feel the people are getting upset, a new consensus showing faked improvements. Because Co2 is not the sole and only cause of global warming, and because the so called consensus as evidence uses plugged and irrelevant numbers like a global average temp, the politicians can perpetuate this scam forever. It simply works better if governments collude on it.

As to the technical aspects of the agreement, the author described the main problem, China not cutting anything. It hardly matters What the US does if China output exceeds the US cuts. Whether or not global warming is man made or not, burning fuels does produce pollution. For China to claim to rise up to a target, establishes some sort of "right" to pollute to a certain level. There is No right to pollute, that is why the Kyoto failed. The concept some countries must pay for a right to pollute by buying this right from other countries allowed infinite pollution rights to sell, was insane. It is merely an excuse to shift money around. With China allowed to continue rising, gives the illusion of legitimacy to the right to pollute. What will happen is nonsense numbers like metric ton per capita will be invented, and then used to in effect make the US pay and others not have to pay, pay in the form of money or inflation.

Scam, Todd? What you going to do if they are right and -- as is 99.999% certain -- you are wrong. Stand out there like Rick Perry and say "Ooops?"

being done by so called scientists

Hey, Todd, a few of these "so-called scientists" just sent a satellite out and landed a small probe on a comet over 300 million miles away. You got anything to top that? Ask them: They are extremely concerned about what we're doing to our environment. Oh, do come back and tell us they are all colluding with the Chinese too.

China's Oil Companies has started to produce lower sulfur gasoline. Methanol production in China is growing at a strong rate. It's a step in the right direction, New provisions call for daily fines for polluters who break the law, and the possible detention of company managers for offenses, including falsifying emissions data, discharging pollutants without a permit or refusing to stop construction on a facility when ordered because of a lack of environmental reviews. But whether it will actually change conditions in China is unclear, and enforcement is key. The Chinese bureaucrats still are rewarded primarily for economic development and "social stability," which can mean silencing anyone who dares to mount an environmental protest.

Are you qualified to have that opinion or guess Todd Topolski?

Can you prove the international consensus of working climate and earth scientist is not real?
