The oxygen of publicity. Johnson's 'endearing', 'eccentric' and 'non-PC' pronouncements are not to be taken seriously.

A spoiled, attention-seeking, irritating twat.

Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher, both of whom saw a more united Europe as the answer to Hitlerism, and a way to ensure peace and stability after centuries of bloodshed

A united Europe and a collection of countries being crippled by beaurocrats and bankers are two very different things. Europe could still have been united even without merging us all under one union that has caused ten times more problems than it has solved or even attempted solving.

His Hitler jibe may backfire on the “Leave” campaign in Britain’s June 23 referendum on EU membership and derail his ambitions to replace David Cameron as prime minister

I wouldn't count on that. Last I checked, the "Leave" camapign was six points ahead of the "Stay" campaign. If you think that Boris Johnson's statement is counterproductive, then what do you make of David Cameron's lies, deceit and scaremongering? He was exposed as having planned to campaign for us to stay in the EU, even while telling Britain that we should leave it. He claimed to be negotiating fair deals for us if we do decide to stay, only to be revealed as being Angela Merkel's puppet. He's made claims about being weakened financially and in terms of the armed forces, but every day more and more evidence is coming out to contradict his claims. There are more people who trust Johnson than Cameron nowadays. Almost no-one has any confidence left in the PM.

Johnson’s view of Britain’s place in Europe seems closer to the long-running BBC comedy series “Dad’s Army”, which mocked a Home Guard of elderly part-time soldiers preparing valiantly to defend the island against a Nazi invasion that never came.

Firstly, I'm guessing the author of this article missed the Xmas special, in which the Homeguard not only responded to a hostage situation involving Nazi paratroopers, but also captured said paratroopers. A small point, but it contradicts the whole "invasion that never came" part. Except that these days it's not Nazi's trying to invade Britain, but ISIS terrorists hiding amidst the tide of immigrants heading for Britain. You'd think the EU would know about them by now, what with Paris and Brussels being targeted, but the EU still insists that Britain lets in another 3.3 million immigrants, with an unknown number of ISIS mixed in. That in itself shows you just how little the EU cares about Britain and its people. Angela Merkel has said that if we stay in, we will not be allowed to have any kind of Border Control. So basically, we're not allowed to try and filter out the terrorists from the innocents. We just have to roll over and get blown up. Gee, thanks.

Come June 23rd, the Brexit side will be celebrating a well deserved victory. Britain's biggest mistake was joining the EU, now it's finally time to correct that mistake.

"I wouldn't count on that. Last I checked, the "Leave" camapign was six points ahead of the "Stay" campaign."

I've been keeping an eye on various polls. The vast majority of them show nothing like that. The stay campaign has a clear advantage on average.

If you are so convinced of a Brexit, get yourself down the bookies. They'll give you decent odds.

Really?

with an unknown number of ISIS mixed in

Why, even home-grown fundies are upset:

A British Isis member living in Syria has complained about the "bad manners" of Arab fellow militants he says steal his shoes, eat like children and don’t queue

It's just not cricket!

What a fuss over nothing! This is a silly attempt by the eurofanatics to distract attention from the EU's democratic failings.

Boris Johnson only mentioned Hitler in passing. His criticisms were measured and accurate. The EU is undemocratic and must be resisted.
