Americans are in total denial about the catastrophy that was the Bush administration. This is what continues to haunt Obama administration. It's probably too late to save the world anyway.

Albeit true that Obama has failed in many respects, let's choose to look at the glass as being half full. We've now learned that politicians come in all colors and flavors and that it's absolutely fallacious to appoint one to any office simply because of their race.

Obama could have been a green alien and still been voted in, people were so sick of the republicans after the Bush years, pretty much any democrat could have beaten them. It had nothing to do with the color of his skin. Neither does the quality of his leadership.

And other than that, he's been the best president in the past 50 years.

Then once Obama is out of office we will ALL be in for a world of doom and gloom from the 8 years of US and also to a large extent, the world. This IS to become the countries nightmare, buckle up!

@stranger

That is absolutely correct. Cannot argue with you on that point. But at the same time many Americans don't understand politics in detail and when I watch Jessie Watters on Fox ask people questions or interview people randomly, you can really see how disconnect many people are from life and politics and many people NOT only Americans vote emotionally and not on the issues. That people voted for Obama the first time based on emotion after especially the last two years of the Bush admin. I understand, but the second time???? You get out what you put in and the only thing we got from Obmama is more debt, the world is less safer than before, radical Islamism is off the charts, Putin is just stark raving looney, the border is open for anything to come through, our debt is getting worse, people knew and were exposed to this precursor and yet, they still voted for him and like Romney said, he turned out worse than predicted and now we have to live with the decision the people made for another 871 more days.

Neither does the quality of his leadership.

That would be a gross over statement to put it very mildly.

And other than that, he's been the best president in the past 50 years.

We're in September, April 1st already passed us.

Well first we the people Do not exist so Obama can have some sort of legacy. Nor Do we the people care.

It is his own fault, instead of listening to EU,UN and US socialists in the Democrat or similar world parties about Bush then maybe Obama would have did an Ok job. Instead the mindless automatons in the EU handed him a Nobel peace prize not for achieving peace But for agreeing to undo bush and Do what they want. 6 years later it is far worse. The socialists knew as long as countries were ready to fight back against would be Islamic conquerors, then the socialists would see their entire international relations plans proven wrong . In goes obama, peace prize. He backs off from bush doctrines as does the rest of the west, he pretends the rape and enslavement of women isn't happening, beheading and executions are nothing and out right invasions are merely disagreements. Obama, the Democrats, the un, the eu and their collective socialism is yet again proven a failure. Easy to predict as Well, these politicians world wide have repeated this many times. And someone expected a legacy? Be happy t e clown has to leave in less the as n 2 years.

Mr. Noidall : I agree with your point that Bush screwed things up so much that any democrat would have gotten voted in; however, to suggest that Obama's race, being the first African- American president, to say that wasn't a factor in his being voted in is pure hogwash.

He sure surprised Hillary. My wife's still mad at him for that, was looking forward to first female president.

IMHO, Obama was dealt a lousy hand in what he inherited from George W. However, he has misplayed that hand terribly, and made the world even more dangerous for his successor. World events have just over-whelmed him. Being cautious is one thing. Being weak and paralyzed waiting for "otimum outcomes" is another. George W. suffered from "Ready...Fire...Aim" Obama suffers from "Ready...Aim...Ready...Aim...Ready..."

The current events are Obama's baby, not Bush's. The seeds to the 2008 recession were planted in the 70's. The Iraq war was Bush's baby, Sept 11th was Clinton's baby.

Obama has done a poor job with the economy, which is not surprising, considering that Obama had no professional or business experience before being elected. He never ran a lemonade stand, or even worked behind the counter at McDonald's.

Obama failed to act during the "Arab Spring", and when Putin began maneuvering toward the Crimea and Ukraine, but then again, Obama had no diplomatic experience before being elected. In fact, prior to the election, Obama had never held a US passport, and had never been outside America. We all remember how shocked the Emperor and Empress were when Obama bowed to them on his first visit to Japan.

Obama has had trouble with Iraq, Afghanistan, and the rise of the Islamic State, which is not surprising, as Obama had no military experience whatsoever before being elected. When you look at the picture of the situation room when Bin Laden was killed, which person in the photo looks the least "presidential"?

If Obama's legacy suffers as a result of his deficiencies, it is not his fault, he is what he is. The fault lies with the people who were foolish enough to vote an unqualified and ineffectual man to be president of the United States.

No bankers in prison, derivatives still unregulated, the printing and off-shoring continues, main street is full of pot holes and crumbling, foreign policy is a joke, and still no satellite data of flight MH17 because it's now "classified".

Legacy? He will go down as one of the worst presidents.

Agreed !

Arrogance.

Pure and simple arrogance from the U.S., thinking it can "fix" the world.

Oh sure the U.S. can destabilise the world, after all sticking a knife in someone is easy, but fixing them afterwards takes infinitely longer by comparison with the amount of time it took to inflict the injury.

But the sheer arrogance of the U.S. thinking it can fix the world with "surgical strikes"?

Hubris is the only word to adequately describe this belief that Obama could fix the world. He couldn't even fix America.

And that doesn't mean Obama is a bad president, like many here imply (or say outright), it just means he's a human at the head of a massive bureaucracy (the U.S. government) and actually he has a lot less control than people believe.

... but most people can't grasp the size and scope of even the U.S. government, so they find it easier to try and pin the blame on one man.

The same people can't grasp the size and scope of global politics, so they mistakenly try to see the U.S. as the sole factor in global change.

It is idiocy and arrogance from small-minded people.

Frungy : ... but most people can't grasp the size and scope of even the U.S. government, so they find it easier to try and pin the blame on one man.

How would they get elected if they didn't blame the problems on the last guy in the job?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

even some supporters blame on a commander in chief they view as a feckless.

Name two.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Arrogance and ignorance. Pure arrogance and ignorance. Obama thought he was better and beyond the ones before him. He thought he could solve everyone's problem with the slogan "yes, we can." He couldn't grasp the scope of the problem in the US government nor the depth of the dynamics on world stage. Obama should get blamed for everything under the sun just as others before him. He shouldn't be an exception but he is already getting special treatment. Media is still nice to him and the population isn't as harsh on him. Many hold back due to the fear of being labeled racist. From the beginning, I only saw him as a bullshitter with no substance and that's all he would ever be. I'm sure there are actually sharp world leaders out there who can see through Obama. Respect is earned not given.

JTDM: Name two.

http://nypost.com/2014/06/27/hillary-called-obama-a-joke-at-lunch-with-pals-book/

Hillary Clinton called President Obama “incompetent and feckless” and charged that he had “no hand on the tiller half the time” during a boozy reunion with college pals, a new book claims.

In the future, the "nightmare years" -- of 9.11, war and depression - will always be remembered as 2001 to 2008. 2009 to 2016 will be remembered as the recovery years.

The affairs of fanatical Muslims in far off lands will matter very little at the end of the day.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@frungy

Arrogance.

I would call it: Being a coward.

Pure and simple arrogance from the U.S., thinking it can "fix" the world.

The US is NOT trying to fix the world, but when the US doesn't maintain a so called proper police like presence and takes itself out of the world scene, like Obama is doing now, you see the results. Had Obama taken a more harder approach towards international affairs and taken a hardline stance against radical Islam and to help our allies with whatever they need to protect themselves from their enemies, things in the world wouldn't be as they are now.

Oh sure the U.S. can destabilise the world, after all sticking a knife in someone is easy, but fixing them afterwards takes infinitely longer by comparison with the amount of time it took to inflict the injury.

The US didn't destabilize anything. If you want to make an argument about going into Iraq, fine, but the meltdown of many countries is due to their personal political politics.

But the sheer arrogance of the U.S. thinking it can fix the world with "surgical strikes"?

And what is your plan? They just beheaded another journalist and they have about 30 more hostages from other countries and Oh, a Brit is next in line. If Obama had some serious balls, he would step up the bombing to about 100 a day, carpet bomb them relentlessly and NON-stop in the first phase. Second phase, do surgical strikes and take out the senior top leaders. But people that have never been or fought in a war talk as if they know better than the experts that have been on the battlefield.

Hubris is the only word to adequately describe this belief that Obama could fix the world. He couldn't even fix America.

On that first point, he needs to become more engaged and do whatever is in his power to help maintain stability and balance where it belongs.

And that doesn't mean Obama is a bad president, like many here imply (or say outright), it just means he's a human at the head of a massive bureaucracy (the U.S. government) and actually he has a lot less control than people believe.

Hmmm, what a funny comment. When Bush was president, you guys would say, who the hell does he think he is? He thinks he can do anything he wants, whenever he wants, he has too much control and power, to NOW Obama doesn't?? I swear you libs make me wet my pants with insane laughter. Seriously, too funny.

... but most people can't grasp the size and scope of even the U.S. government, so they find it easier to try and pin the blame on one man.

When you are at a bar and you have a friend that keeps on drinking the whole night and you try desperately in vain again and again in telling him that he shouldn't drink and it's not good, he still doesn't listen. you can't take the keys away from him. he's a big guy, physically powerful and built like the Rock and now your friend says, I'm driving home and you want to take the keys away, you beg and plead with him, but he doesn't listen and refuses to listen to anything you have to say. He gets in the car, drives off and causes a serious car accident, he survives, not a scratch, but he caused 5 other cars to crash and people died because of his negligence and arrogance and unwillingness to listen to his friend who had tried to give him good advice and now he has to live with the aftermath and consequences for the rest of his life. This is basically, OBAMA in a nutshell. You can blame pretty much most of the bad things and world events that have happened on Obama's watch and truly say, it was all his fault because his majesty NEVER listened to his advisors, the opposition party and even people in his own court. Yes, it is his fault.

The same people can't grasp the size and scope of global politics, so they mistakenly try to see the U.S. as the sole factor in global change.

Pretty much 80% is.

It is idiocy and arrogance from small-minded people.

To think differently, I would tend to agree.

@Jerseyboy

no surprise there.

It shouldn't, it's actually very sad that when you see how disengaged people are or how people just don't want to know or understand and not to mention just plain ignorant about geopolitics as well as history and life in general.

@jeff

The affairs of fanatical Muslims in far off lands will matter very little at the end of the day.

They just chopped off Steven Sotloff, you have thousands of foreigners fighting with ISIS and other radical Islamist groups and threatened to commit acts of terrorism in the West and you think, they will just sit in the desert all day? Many of these foreigners will try to come back or strike at each countries personal interests. That kind of thinking is totally absurd.

Check the 10-item list link I posted and add Hillary to whatever number you come up with. I did it for you and found 3 or 4 total but that post is dust.

I find it laughable that Republicans are always complaining that it's not America's job to save the world then go on about Syria and the Arab Spring all being Obama's 'legacy'.

He arrived at a time of chaos, crises and insecurity. Some of that caused by the previous administration(s), some affected by his, and a lot caused by factors that have nothing to do with the US and that the US is largely powerless to affect the outcome of anyway.
