Where's the other 38?

caption reads : a piece of Japan not whole of Japan :)

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I hope the fans took better pictures then this one.

Oh look, it's the other part of AKB48 that mainstream Japan doesn't give a crap about.

'ya fool, Japanese senbatsu polls don't mean crap. Let Indonesia decide

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

the babes are out of focus.

Bet there were some painful shoulders after this event.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The crowd is covering up the best part... girls in short skirts!

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

It really is a pretty bad photo. Could it possibly be any more out of focus?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Readers, the whole point of the shot is not to show AKB48, but the fans' frenzy as they try to take photos. In fact, it is an excellent photo.

In fact, it is an excellent photo.

To each his own. The composition does not lend it itself to focus on the fans, thus the point is quite lost. Look above. I am not the only one with this opinion.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

That is because some readers think the photo is supposed to be of AKB48. It isn't. The photo is of the fans.

In photography terms the camera was focused on the raised arms and had a shallow depth of field. In other words the focus was maintained to a certain distance and became blurrier after a fixed point. Hence AKB48 is out of focus.

-2 ( +1 / -4 )

A small aperture would have put the whole scene in focus.

Any photographer would know that.

All those arms look like sun flowers. I would definitely buy this picture.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Why look at girls when you can see all these idol chasing otakus. If mankind rallies together behind a single obsession, we might at last know true peace.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

To those who dont understand why only part of the pic is in focus I suggest you study up on aperature & who it relates to depth of field in photography.

Now the REAL question is, now do we get a FRIGGIN break from these "underage" tarts I bloody hope so! Hahaha

Fantastic picture.... AKB48 is so popular everywhere that throngs of fans (as so clearly shown) love them. This could be picture of the year!!!!

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Despite the critique, I think it is a good photo. I would compare this to how one would view a Van Gogh work. It is up to the individual to determine what they see, and answers will vary. As one put it, it is like a photo of sunflowers, which is how I see it too. Just depends on how you view it. I agree that the focus is on the fans (Moderator, 10 points!), not the group, so it would be effective to put them out of focus while showing the crowd.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

I wonder why none AKB are smiling. Very disrespectful to the fans, as if they do not like being there.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

PS AKB look like enduring punishment...bad picture.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

amazing that their "music" is soo popular across Asia. Or maybe jus the Asian fascination with Japanese girls and the inferiority complex they have about Japanese fashions, "music", "culture" and so on.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

This is a nice piece of Japan! And an excellent photo!

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

AKB48 looks pretty bored. Everyone has their "Another day at the office" face on.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I don't see a single female set of arms in the entire crowd. See a lot of Otaku looking men baying for blood though. No wonder the poor girls look so miserable.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

The composition is bad. The space between the fans and AKB48 is pretty much equal leading to a lack of a focal point. People usually look at a photo from top to bottom and the focus thus looks to be on an unfocused photo of AKB48. What needed to be done was for the photo to be taken vertically and for the fans to take up more space at the bottom of the photo. It also would have helped if the photographer had zoomed in more on the fans.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

The photo is of the fans( so said the MOD )........................... then take the pic from AKB48 -30 side to show the frenzy of the fan's faces !!

@NeoJamal

Oh look, it's the other part of AKB48 that mainstream Japan doesn't give a crap about.

Yes, you said it. So why do gaijin get so worked up about them?

There's plently of variety in Japanese music if you bother getting off your bum, losing your bias and using your eyes (and ears).

Great idea oberst

Apparently Indonesian have Otaku too. Unless they've travelled from Akihanara or wherever :-)

Not sure if my female Japanese in-laws like them, I think they're more into K-Pop guys. To each their own.

The girls of AKB48 are definitely cute... but I never once bought a piece of music because of just looks alone. First and foremost quality of voice has always been most important. I just started listening to Amy Winehouse's Love is a Losing Game.... fantastic vocals and so much emotion in them.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yes, you said it. So why do gaijin get so worked up about them?

To be fair with you, I doubt that the rest of the world would find Tomomi Itano so appealing. If senbatsu/popularity polls were found in each country, the results will most likely vary.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I see nothing wrong the photo. It's a picture of the fans holding their cameras and AKB48 in the background.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

an infatuation not yet understood.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

and yes... as long as the neighbor Asians eat this madness and pay up. Don't take it personally lads/madams... but I would feel like a d**d having my daughter in the lineup. 'And Daddy made me go to a third world country'... I gave my chat to my son the other day about this thing gong on. is anyone else eating this?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Are you saying that they are working girl?, because if you did, I will be damed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

http://danieldiaztecles.blogspot.com/The entire photo is blurry, I would like to see the screens of mobile phones and the faces of AKB48.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I wonder why none AKB are smiling. Very disrespectful to the fans, as if they do not like being there.

If they really are fans of this contrived abomination, they don't deserve any respect, they need to get a life. I can understand that may be some teeny bopper girls might be into this sad excuse for music (and fashion?), but parents of any young adult men who buy this trash because the girls are "cute" should be very worried.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

yeah, we GET that the picture is proving a point, and that it is correctly focused and yada yada. But the point people are making is, we wanna see AKB in focus and don't need to see the otaku arms.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If I'm not mistaken, everybody in the rear are taking pictures of the camera in front of the camera in front of the camera in front of the camera in front, to take a picture of AKB10.

With that said, everybody's picture of AKB10 should be blurry.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

if they come to america they will get laughed at

0 ( +0 / -0 )

whiskey - They will not. They will be adored.
