I really liked this film and as I live where the film waw shot I am happy that it won. But how they could overlook Waltz with Bashir is completely beyond me.
Ryoko does look nice.

"Departures" is a good translation for the original title. "The People who Send the Dead Off" somehow wouldn't have worked in the international market.

I don't know, i think 'The Sender' might have worked quite as well. The dead aren't explicitly mentioned.

His "speech" was something like: thank you ,thank you, arigato ,thank you..:-). Infact the men were so excited, they rushed onto the stage without waiting for the ladies. Anyhow omedetoo gozaimaaaasu.

Omedetou! I am thrilled that this wonderful movie and these wonderful actors were recognised in this way. Okuribito is one of the best movies I have ever seen. Simply superb, in every way. I was so excited by the news I cried.
