Wow - what a combination - plastic poodle meets full metal jacket

How many people get killed in this movie?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

In a real fight , she'll bite of his head, stretch his ears and use it as a bag...Uno Kanda wears seals around her neck.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

She does look plastic though. I thought she was a was a wax model, either that or too much plastic surgery.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Dutchduck - That would be a movie worth seeing!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Want to see this movie. アクト オブ ヴァーラ seriously Japanese need to stop changing movie titles.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Nice act of valor is the sub title on the Japanese version, the scary thing is that now here in Japan this movie shares a title with that crap Charlie Sheen movie from 1990.

The U.S. film, starring real, active-duty Navy SEALs.

Don't they have more pressing things to do?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

I bet this movie won't attract many females. If she is a model, I should change my line of business.

I bet this movie won't attract many females.

Not at all. This is my kind of movie and I'd be definitely lining up to watch it.

Gun fights, dead people, endless action and violence? F yeah!

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Her "military" designer outfit is ridicules...she does look like a wax figurine.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Lt Commander No-Self-Respect meets Ensign No-Brains.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Lol, Franchesca. I find her scarf amazingly beautiful. I wonder where they sell that.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

yeah, that scarf looks cool, but her face gives me the creeps. FFS...

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Nice pose for Uno Kanda!! All of you can size her up as a wax figure, but I'll take her!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Uno Kanda is more frightening than the real navy seal. Ugh.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

I hear Kanda Uno was really good in that movie. Oh wait...

0 ( +2 / -2 )

This movie was a huge disappointment. The acting was terrible. The idea to use real Navy SEALS, while an interesting concept, falls flat on its face.

Can someone please tell me why in Japan, when promoting a movie, there is always at least one Japanese Tarento stood there, usually doing nothing more than beaming like a buffoon because they have no idea about, nor relation to whatever movie it is they're promoting?

As the Japanese themselves say, "Wan pattan"; get a new shtick.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

They called the Japanese title "navy seals"? Do you know there is another movie of the same name?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

U.S. Navy's SEa, Air and Land (SEAL) - welcome aboard LCDR Rorke, USN.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Well, he doesn't look at all uncomfortable.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

they could not find a younger, more attractive girl for this?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Already plenty of bad movies to choose from, now the pentagon is funding 90 minute commercials and calling it entertainment.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

It's a typical 'Yee Haa" cowbow style US military guns blazing film. Typical plot (we are hero's) and outcome. Nothing new to see. The film was well directed and filmed, but the story is the same as every other USA, USA style war mongering film.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I don't think NAVY SEALS is a bad title for Japan. I've seen worse. They need to have it eyecatching and "understandable" to the public.

Probie

Don't they have more pressing things to do?

Yes and no. Obviously these SEALs wouldn't have been participating in the film if they were absolutely needed elsewhere, you know, real-world ops first. However the military is smart enough to know that films like this are veritable PR goldmines and the cheapest and most effective recruiting tools that are well worth the minimal amount of participation/support required.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Saw the movie already. It wasn't bad at all. I'd agree with the above posters that there wasn't really anything new brought to the screen but the directing and filming were top notch and it's kind of refreshing to see Seals first, actors second on screen. It's a very different watching experience. I wish the story was just a little more memorable!

That's definitely NOT what a navy SEAL Lt Cmdr (should) look like. Or is this movie about navy SEALs who deserted the USA to become Tsutaya DVD Rental employees, 'cause I tell ya, he's looking the part! Total PR flop. At least Mother Uno is looking the part!

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

She may well have that "plastic" look due to the flash. Although she does look somewhat better than the mercenary she's standing next too, he really does look like a twunt posing like that.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Lt Cmdr Rorke

JT: The correct abbreviation is LCDR, not Lt Cmdr.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

USA style war mongering film.

I worked with a few SEALS during my time in the USN, and contrary to what the movie portrays, they are actually very quiet guys who aren't like the ones in the movies. Sure they are trained killers, but they don't act like it. Each one that I knew pretty much sad the same thing when asked whom to watch out for, and they said the Israeli Special Forces. They say those guys look like mild mannered CPA's, but were stone cold killers who would slit your throat in a second.

I'll give this movie a try, but I hope that it will not be too "Hollywood" and unrealistic.

"That's definitely NOT what a navy SEAL Lt Cmdr (should) look like. Or is this movie about navy SEALs who deserted the USA to become Tsutaya DVD Rental employees, 'cause I tell ya, he's looking the part!"

Wonder if you'd be saying the same thing If that gun was real and he was coming at you?

-2 ( +2 / -3 )

What is this American obsession with guns and killing?

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

Check Uno Kanda's hat, her rank is "Anchor" haha

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Wonder if you'd be saying the same thing If that gun was real and he was coming at you?

Not critizising the man.

I'm laughing at the people who "organized" this PR event.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Kaminarioyaji: It's because typically the movie itself does not carry the first-hand excitement that the media would be interested in reporting, unless there are the usual mega-stars (Depp Cruise kind of people) involved. Much has to be relied on the local B grade tarentos, typically those who just happen to be "hot gossip material" for the moment due to scandals, marriages, divorces, births etc or those who are usually sough after as the gossip comentators. In this case I suspect Uno falls under the latter category and whatever catchy and interesting that she says either about someone else (undergoing a public scandal) would be reported by the TV info-programs, yahoo japan on the internet or sports shinbuns, with a very brief explanation of the event itself which she just happened to be present at the time (only then would there be a brief explanation about the movie). This would be just about the only way the majority of the population would learn about the movie, after which a limited fraction may find interest in learning more about the movie concerned. In short, the movie does not have the eye-catching appeal for many, hence the need for external gossip media PR help in use of the B grade tarentos.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It must be good PR because up until this morning I didn't know Uno Kanda. That's how you get famous here. Just look at all the comments, the movie has completely become overshadowed by her.

Alphaape

JT: The correct abbreviation is LCDR, not Lt Cmdr.

The cut line is correct as is. "Lt. Cmdr." is the AP abbreviation for a Lieutenant Commander that's used by all non-military media. It is abbreviated as "LCDR" only in Navy (DOD) correspondence or documents.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I'll stick with Cockleshell Heroes

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Wow. I've never seen a Japanese "talent" fail on quite so many levels. She's utterly irrelevant to the film - no surprise there - but also profoundly unpleasant to look at.

And she's also under the impression that the colour green is the same thing as combat uniform.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Act of Valor was a recruitment video for the Navy SEALs - s'why what's filmed were actual SEALs in real training exercises. Pentagon later had reservations due to some sensitive info captured on film that may be used by enemies, but the movie studio agreed to redact some stuff, kept the film, and made a movie out of it.

This scenario reminds us of what happened with Top Gun.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

and could we at least get a shot of uno's legs? it aint her acting she's famous for.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

So how many people get killed in this movie? Is it suitable for the primary school age child of a Navy Seal?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Isn't Charlie Sheen in this movie?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

The most politically incorrect movie promo - EVER! Where was this taken - Kazakhstan or something? Oh, actually Japan...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I have gotten sick and tired of these American movies where the Americans are the good guys, kickin' butt all around the world.

I was deceived by all that cr@p when I was like, 13 years old, but these days I think I can see how things are not so black and white and it just seems like a load of complete nonsense.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Another STUPID American war movie. Between this and the invading alien moves there is not much on TV. BORING! BORING! BORING! Would rather watch the movie if the women was one of the actors. So what happens do the Americans win the war again? Watch the brave seal shoot the terrorist, who falls out of the tree, building, etc and out of the plot line. The old war movies with Japan as the foe were the same. PU!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Many year ago (35 to be exact) i was w/a US Army Spec Ops group...the last thing we wanted was to be ID'd so we kept a super tight lid on who we were and what we did...lot's has changed since those days...making a movie and showing up in the flesh...not a good idea.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I have the highest respect for the UDT SEALS, "Act of Valor" sound's good. The seal's are a team you don't want to mess with. I wonder how the Taliban and Al Qaeda would feel about this movie? Osama bin laden what do you think?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

mtwildman

Do you really think some Taliban fighters in the Afghan wilds are going to say, "Hey there's that SEAL that was promoting that movie in Japan!" and recognize him in the pitch dark of night through the full beard he'd be sporting and the NVGs he'd be wearing? Seriously doubt it, and if they did it wouldn't matter becayse it would be a milli-second before his rounds hit them between the eyes.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Using aggression and violence in the pursuit of peace. Never have, and never will understand or agree with that approach.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

it's a great movie, it's on dvd in america already.

It's cool

0 ( +0 / -0 )

^ it can't be all that great if its already on dvd -_-
