A hornet or mud wasp I could understand, but a bee?

If she got stung, it wouldn't help her tennis game so even a bee can cause damage even if she isn't allergic to them.

Leave them alone, they don't look for something to sting. Swat it and you just may be stung. Unless an allergy is a serious concern.

Too many people in Japan are scared of any animal that's not in a cage or a cute dog or cat. I'm always amazed at the over reaction of my university students when any kind of insect happens to find it's way into the classroom.

Bee stings hurt and for some bee stings kill. I can understand her reaction perfectly well. Give her some slack.

Once, as kids playing hide & seek, jumped into a bush..... turned out there were bees there...... got stung all over the place...... then just put some ointment and good to go and play some more!

I have never understood fear of insects - just leave them alone and they'll leave you alone, why the drama.

zichi: Must have been horrible. In any case, while Japanese hornets can be horrible, this is a bee in NY we are talking about. I'm with the 'leave it alone and it will do the same' crowd. This looks like an overreaction to me.

Freaking out and swatting at a stinging insect is the last thing one should do; they don't fly up and sting you without provocation. Just let them bee.

Agree stand still the bee is checking you out for possible pollen source and will leave soon.

I was, as always. watching this match. It was a pretty persistant bee. It interrupted play in the second set three or four times before they finally really went after it. Was kind of funny to hear Kimiko-san squeal, though ! Otsukaresama, Kimiko-san !

I remember sitting in my mother's garden with my brother drinking beer and being armed with badminton racquets ( we were pretty handy players ) ready for any wasp who fancied a Guinness. The lad with the racquet has the right idea.

Bees, if they smell something sweet on you like even just a sugary soda that you had earlier and the traces of it stick on your lips or chin, they often just won't leave you alone. Once I sat outside, then I spilt some soda on my outside table, and a bee came along and it wouldn't go away until I had cleaned away the spillage.

Umm, bees don't just attack people for no reasons, you have to attack them first - perhaps this is why Japanese are so afraid of insects; they think (like 'Badge; here bless him) that their goal in life is to attack a human, then die.

It appears no one had the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, oh wait, that only works on Killer Rabbits of Caerbannog!

For those that never saw the flick in the theater, the bloody movie was horrible and after 20 minutes you were routing for the bees to win, that is/was the joke!
