Smoking around food preparation. How Japanese (actually, how Asian continent in general)...

Great photo. This is the real Japan.

Flogging pork with a durry in his mouth - couth!

Hey! give this guy a break.

He is wearing gloves so he doesn't get the pork on his tobacco...

On a side note, I know everyone says you need to visit those small, hole in the wall Japanese restaurants to experience the real Japan. Well, I've seen in enough of those hole in the wall kitchens to know I don't want to experience the REAL Japan: filthy rusty kitchens, gloveless old people handling my food, and the bugs. Oh, the bugs. I don't want to experience the real Japan that those hands have been before preparing my food.

Although he is smoking around food, there is so little food illnesses in general compared to most places. We can eat raw eggs here, fish and meat all the time...chicken, horse and whale too.

So, just because he is smoking does not mean he does not care about food prep.

@Yelnats; yeah, because a common feature of high end restaurants is the chefs smoking in the kitchens, right?

This is objectively scummy behaviour.

@Yelnats

I can eat raw eggs, fish, meat, chicken, horse, and whale too everywhere... not only in Japan. But if I go to the hospital or die then it will be because I'm idiot. There is a difference between can and recommended !

how do we know they are resting? That is a sink next to them so he can wash his hands after touching to pork and before making his fag all bloody. ameyoko is anyway not the most hygienic place to buy food.

Ah, good old hygiene in Japan! No wonder you read about mass food poisonings every week.

whats the point of this photo except to provoke some anti smoking trolls? just a badly taken photo of some dudes....

Lost in translation with Smoked Flavored Pork?

Smoking with food, go Japan!

So glad I've never bought food products in Ameyoko. Got a cheap tie once with an owl on it... nice, but no food.

How disgusting, I just had a meeting with 10 executives from the states. Asked what they wanted to do after the meeting 6 of them asked me for a cigarette...off to the fire exit...(anecdotal evidence as per the regular JT "etiquette"..

Holding the entirely modern view that smoking, and especially smoking around food is negative, is not exactly 'trolling', is it?

As a smoker yourself, your angle that smokers have the right to smoke is just the addiction talking. Give up, and do yourself, and everyone else around you a favour.

Would you like a little cancer stick residue with that pork your buying?
