Back to the Heian Period

Men dressed as samurai warriors in armor walk out after the Kachiya Festival at Katori Shrine in Tokyo on Tuesday. The festival celebrates the warlord Fujiwara Hidesato's victory in suppressing a revolt by warload Taira no Masakado in 940 during the Heian Period (794-1185). Fujiwara dedicated a "kachiya" or victory arrow to the shrine.

Sadly the glasses kind of ruin the whole effort otherwise pretty cool.

Was it the Fujiwara clan who helped Japan's royal family maintain its "unbroken" lineage when there were no direct descendants?

Nice costumes! (minus the glasses, but hey).

Very interesting. Can't say I know much about that period though.
