Im getting confused by all these pageants now - we have Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss International - what is the difference between them all??!

There is no sign of them (beauty pageants) ever disappearing from the world scene. Not as long as the flesh is willing and minds being what they are.

Take out skin colour as a factor & their faces all pretty much look the same, must be covered in gobs of makeup YUCK!

Silly pageants. They serve what purpose? They produce what? And I can walk down most any city street in the world and find prettier women. And pageants for children are teaching the kids what?

How do they keep those smiles on their faces for so long?

These contests must make the average Jane and Hanako feels so inadequate.

The second word.

Like boxing, there are too many of these. Although even if there were thousands more they are still pointless given that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and their chance of ever finding the "most beautiful woman in the world/universe/planet/international" is zero.

So where's "Ms. Pork Queen" from the Clay County Fair, Clay County, Iowa? . . . she was a hum-dinger!

Hey, if the contestants enjoy doing it and the pageant must have its fans so who cares.

The winner looks a bit ropey.

Is the Thai runner-up a woman? I just plain can't tell nowadays.

Beauty pageants can have a purpose beyond showcasing beautiful people. When beauty pageants are done for positive and effective goals like fundraising, awarding scholarships, and creating awareness of problems etc. it can really serve a purpose in today's society. Unfortunately the only thing that it is doing is putting in young girl's mind and a woman's that they have to be beautiful. We need to teach the younger generations that they are beautiful no matter what their size, or how they look. It's all about what is inside and the person they are that makes them beautiful. Sadly the primary purpose for some beauty pageants seems to be entertainment promoting the worship and or objectification of it contestants and of course to make money.
