Blocking tactic

Ruling Liberal Democratic Party Upper House lawmaker Masahisa Sato, second left, acting chairperson of an upper house committee, is blocked from reading documents by opposition lawmakers during a fracas in the Diet on Thursday. In another battle of wills, opposition lawmakers used delaying tactics to block the committee from meeting to approve bills that would expand the role of the country's military.

I think I saw a clip similar to this on xvideos...

This is one issue on which I think this kind of physical aggressiveness is not only forgivable, but necessary to help slap the nation out of its aloofness and complacency. The people who support this legislation will be the first to cry, "What?? How can this be?" when the backdoor draft is put to use and the first Japanese start dying in a desert somewhere "in defense of the nation". Go opposition!!

It was only done in Self Defence

Children, children ... please!

I'm sorry, while I normally agree with smithinjapan, this show of childishness is just reeking of immaturity. Perhaps the PM and the LDP are playing dirty pool, but acting like a child and doing stuff like that isn't going to help you in the long term of actually getting this overturned or rescinded anytime in the future. It just makes the opposition look like children.

This photo is very representative of Japanese society as a whole.

Infantile behavior

Peek-A-Boo for grown men who miss acting like children.

Population should and must join the opposition, it is now or never.

Kids, don't make me stop the car ......

David: I usually think these scuffles are childish. In SK they happen all the time and it's laughable. In this case, however, there is literally NO WAY to make the LDP lawmakers listen. It also draws attention to the extent of the opposition where some media hav yet to cover it at all (Yomiuri, Sankei, NHK). So, childish, yes, but what else can they do when the government wants to ram it through?

Please note that all mainstream media, including the ones you mention, have covered and are covering this issue.

Absolutely. Do whatever is necessary to stop these bills

Well, at least, for once, they're not sleeping on the job.

I'll defend the right of any politician standing up for something the majority of the public believes in. I respect those who are prepared to make arses of themselves doing it even more.

Keep attention on this issue. Keep scrapping away.

The real test of the pudding is, should the opposition unseat the ruling coalition next election, will the opposition undo the Collective Self Defense laws.

I'm thinking the opposition won't. The opposition will just thank Abe for passing the laws on their behalf.

Masahisa Sato became acting chairperson when Konoike was kicked out of this position. Konoike, a Jiminto member and thus a strong Abe supporter, was ousted by the opposition earlier Thursday. If you tune in to NHK's BS channel, you can see Konoike sitting glumly in the hallway just outside the chamber while Sato oversees the anti-Abe dialogue inside. Interesting ...

Goes to show that you can only be young once but you can always be immature.

A few creased suits in that mellee. I saw one bloke pile over the top, only to be swallowed up by the crowd. Never saw him again

Via NHK TV ... There was just another scuffle (at 4:30 p.m.) as Konoike came back into the chamber and tried to take over his seat. Abe and two of his top ministers also came in. As Konoike was being smothered by anti-Abe people, Abe quickly left the room under security escort. About 10 minutes later it was declared that the session was over and the two top Abe ministers were surrounded by security personnel and escorted from the room. Everyone quickly left the room ... and that is where matters now stand. An empty room ... probably with all parties regrouping to strengthen their positions.

@smithinjapan et al. Do you not see the irony here? Peace Protesters using violence when their words fail sort of proves that the state needs to be on a footing to defend itself from those who may use violence if words fail....could not be any clearer!

True.

What's not explained in the description of the above picture is that the lawmaker who is behind and left of Sato are Tetsuro Fukuyama and Shinkun Haku (Baek Jinhoon), naturalized Japanese. The irony.
