I agree. Japanese people are patient people. Other nations would have disposed of the royal system long ago, at least after the terrible loss of the WW2 and the two atomic bombs over Japan.

On a lighter note.......Dec 23? shame he wasn't born on a better day for a public holiday to take place. how inconsiderate of him ;-)
Though I see his son is born on Feb 23 - that's a good time of year to have a day off courtesy of the emperor.

I would only say Happy Birthday your majesty, but not your Imperial Majesty. That has some negative history to it. Just like the swastika.
