I think the names of the members of the cabinet should be listed in the caption of the photo. I want to know who is who.

Sarge - great post, Tee Hee!
Should be listed as no 1-7 suit man.

Attestation or prostration?
The guy at the top right looks ticked off not to be in the front row.
The guy on Fukuda`s left looks like one of the Keebler elves.

USA - You mean those new deodorant suits? They need 'em, since they've got the thermostat set to a sweltering 28 degrees! Tee hee!

The Japan Times has the lineup and profiles of this cast of characters: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20080802a1.html

After reading all comments I still don't get what you guys where expecting?

I would like to ask where the Japanese government borrowed this suit fashion from. The British?? I noticed that the men in the government always wear these suits in inauguration ceremonies.

Everytime a new cabinet is showed, it is the same comments. Lamenting about age, style, clothes, height, etc. My question is just: What, exactly, were you expecting ?

stop worrying about your new suit and do something

Only JT can answer to your question who has displayed this picture.

I think the humor we were aiming for was from exactly as you pointed out, that nothing changes. But I guess you just didn't get it.

Rodney King: If you read carefully on this thread and the other related ones about Fukuda
s Cabinet changes, you would hopfully be able to understand that the bulk of the criticism from the JT crowd is that he simply shuffled a number of the same olLDP people in and out of different positions, without much thought it seems to ability, but more toward rewarding party loyalty. In general, it seems no one is particularly impressed with Fukuda
s new Cabinet-Japanese and foreigners alike. If Fukuda thought these moves would truly spark a lasting surge in his abysmally-low popularity ratings, hes probably quite mistaken. How do you feel about Fukuda`s seeming indifference to the "postal rebels" that Koizumi punished, Rodney King?
How about the fact that Bunmei Ibuki once held the post of Education Minister, even though he freely admitted to not knowing much about education matters?
How about the fact that Seiko Noda used to live with another Diet member outside marriage? Not much of a role model for the youth of Japan.

Anyway, I wasn't surprised to see Mr. Taro Ao on the table again. I swear to god the LDP actually has the name of all people to serve in its ranks on a batting roster, and regardless of the scandals that have forced them to 'retire' in the past, said scandal-tainted ministers are appointed AGAIN when it goes back to the top of the order.

I was talking to a number of Japanese citizens/voters today and every single one of them told me they had no idea what the purpose of this reshuffle was, and indeed that Fukuda, in his ten months of office had not articulated a single policy. He has, apparently, done less than the woeful Abe who was hounded from office for being pointless.
One of the more well-connected of them told me that Soka Gakkai has decided that there will be an election in January. Fukuda didn't decide this. Soka Gakkai did.
This is really a very pathetic portrait of an LDP without the slightest clue. I defy any reader to tell me what a single one of these soulless drudges stands for, other than spouting meaningless generalities when pressed for a statement.

"an LDP without the slightest clue"
Apparently they have more of a clue than the opposition parties.
0
ExPrinceska
Sarge, do you have a clue what you are talking about?
0
Sarge
Princess - Yeah, I do. Which party's been in charge of the Japanese government for almost all of the past 60 years, including right now?
0
ExPrinceska
Sarge, it is like in a communist state, the ruling party never changes...
0
Sarge
Princess - Unless the voters vote in the opposition, like they did a few years ago and we had Prime Ministers Murayama, Hosokawa and Hata. Hata didn't last long because he wore those ridiculous half-sleeve jackets...

Thanks, Sarge, you are a walking encyclopedia. I am in Japan since the rule of Hashimoto - who dressed like Elvis Presley.

Same old photo (with a big emphasis on the word OLD). I didn't realize until now that there was a minister who's specific role was to deal with the N Korean kidnappings (!). But of all the people Fukuda could choose, why on earth did he choose the woman who speaks even quieter and slower than the Empress? The N Koreans are going to shoot you down if you can shout back.

Old? To me they look like schoolboys lined in front of their teacher for disciplinizing, I think.

just one J bird and for good reason. the rest of the dinosaurs will continue the rape of Japan regardless.

on closer inspection, it seems 2 j birds made the cut, or 2 lame ducks amidst a host vampires and leeches.

The new Defense Minister should be a hoot, since he "plays guitar and keyboards with his LDP colleagues in a band called Gi!nz."
