Campaign against illegal foreign workers

Campaign against illegal foreign workers

A banner promotes the “Monthly campaign against illegal foreign workers from June 1 to 30” at JR Shinagawa station. The Immigration Service is conducting PR activities to prevent illegal foreign workers as well as give advice to foreigners on visa issues throughout June.

I'd wager you will never find a banner like that in a red light district or in a hostess bar.

The rest of the world needs to follow Japan's example, not that many aren't but a fine line needs to be drawn against illegals, period. I have no compassion whatsoever for those who break the laws of any country.

"From June 1 to June 30"

The rest of the year the illegals are welcome to fulfill their duties in this society.

All that Inmigration need to do is raid the factories of mid and small size companies and ask for IDs. The same for the Snacks. Sorry but these sounds like another lip service campaign.

sad that in 2008 Japan needs a campaign.

Like it or not, the manufacturing side of the J economy stays afloat in no small part due to illegal workers.

Lots of small factories dotted around Japan would go belly up pretty quickly without their input. What do they get? A stipend salary, no medical insurance, no pension, no recourse for abuse, no nuthin' . I'd say it's a good deal for the employers...

No one shud follow Jpns example, which is:

Allow illegals in to work illegally, periodically round up a few, re-ship back home, allow more in, re-ship, repeat year after year after year.

Also allow visas for "Technical Training" from 3rd world countries, upon arrival ship to factories, confiscate passports, enslave at yr leisure.

Put up big banner so the J-pop knows the immigration office staff are just going gambare day in/day out

    Pathetic

Does this achieve anything at all? Yaks will still import illegal red light workers, factories illegal wage slaves and kitchens someone to clean up the dishes. When will Japan start to let more workers become legal and contribute to society, pay taxes and become good citizens. Now that would be a worth while campaign. And retirees could rest assured in the revenue stream to fund their health and social benefits. Win-Win.

If you lose your job to an illegal worker who doesn't even speak the language, you really suck.

    campaign to do what exactly?

    Fair dinkum!

From my observations, the only people who would be happy to accept Japanese working standards would be illegals. Good on them, I reckon!

America is going through the same thing. I can't blame anyone from leaving a poor country trying to find a place to better themselves. But I feel if people really want to fight illegal immigration it is a two pronged approach that could be used by both the US and Japan.

First: both nations need to address the fact to the countries where most of these workers come from (for example Mexico for the US and maybe China/PI for Japan) that they need to do things internally in their own countries to improve conditions so that a large portion of their population will not have to travel abroad to find work. Second: go after the employers who hire and keep these workers here illegally. Instead of making it easier for them to hire people off the records, adjust the laws so that it will be beneficial for employees to hire legal citizens or resident aliens.

    What does this achieve?

    rjd jr,

Are you totally serious pal ? In a country that has foreign residents making up only about 1.6% of the population (in the US it is about 11%), with only 5% unemployment in a nation brimming with blue collar and working class work, do you not think it is totally disgraceful that they have the gall to stick up a banner reading "Monthly campaign against illegal foreign workers.." in the station where we all embark to renew our visas and get entry permits etc ? And they have the nerve to apply for the Olympic Games ?

how many percentage of illegal gaijin's labours were used to make this beautiful, shining foot path?

    Fair dinkum!

Yeah, how about a campaign against unfair work practices, unpaid overtime and equality in the workplace for women. That would make more sense and cover a larger demographic of the society, would it not?

what does this actually achieve? except for making Japanese even more skeptical of every foreigner they look at now... "do you think he/she is working illegally"
