Director Takeshi Kitano, center, and producer Masayuki Mori pose on the red carpet as they arrive for the screening of their film “Outrage” in competition at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival on Monday night. “Outrage,” which is about a bloody gang war in Tokyo, is Kitano’s first yakuza film since he made “Brothers” in 2000. Kitano admitted that “Outrage” is likely to be controversial, but he insisted he is no expert on the yakuza. The screening drew groans and sniggers from viewers during scenes that included flying fingers, plunging chopsticks, a nasty bit of dentistry and the intertwining of a head, a rope and a luxury sedan.

One of Japan's only good directors, though of course he is dwarfed by Kurosawa. LOVED Brothers, and look forward to seeing this one.

When it comes to slapstick comedy - Beat is the master. I wonder if this film has his trademark hit-a-rubber-hammer-on-the-head gag? Hope so!

I wonder how many times poor Susumu Terajima gets killed in this film.
Takeshi Kitano is the master of his own way of doing things, not sure that is as much of a compliment as I meant for it to be, but it is a compliment. I have liked most everything he has done but rate Dolls as his best work. Though that only really succeeded because of Hisaishi’s score. Change the music and that film would have failed horribly. “outraged” will be added to the collection and only after seeing will I make a judgement, the man can come up with surprises, better to wait until we have seen what is on offer.

Takeshi has such a mean glare basically all of the time. If he hadn't built up a following with his artistic endeavours, nobody would give him the time of day....

His right-wing bias was always there, so I never found him funny. Just scary.

Am I the only one who notices that most of the photographers in this pic are taking this opportunity to switch batteries or memory cards before someone really "famous" hits the carpet?

Oh, I get it. So you're trying to imply that Kitano is not famous? You obviously know nothing about movies and you have never been to the Cannes film festival. I have.
