Waitresses who work in maid cafes in Tokyo's Akihabara district sprinkle water on a perimeter of Kanda Myojin shrine during an annual summer "uchimizu" event on Sunday. The event is held as a countermeasure to urban heat islands.

What a great country!

Grown up girls behaving like little girls with skimpy dress is really unique culture here! Love to be in Japon!

Meaningless custom. Plant a few trees and water them instead, please, instead of wasting water on concrete.

I'm more for improving the economy so these young women can get better paying and more meaningful jobs. But it requires a lot of improvement in corporate Japan.

Don't be such an old grump, smithinjapan. They are pretty girls having harmless fun and Japan is hardly known for water supply problems. "Meaningless custom"... heh heh, guess you're no anthropologist! :P

God I love / miss Japan.

More meaningful......interesting point of view. Be a very dull world if everyone, women included, worked in better paying and more meaningful jobs.
BTW do you have any idea how much these girls get? Some of them own their own shops and make pretty damn good money, so are you against that too?
goldorak
Will we ever get tired of J girls wearing short skirts/ knee high socks? I know I won't. Guilty pleasure all right. Thanks JT, a great start to the week!

Goldorak, the answer to your question is No and it is a good start to the week! I think we need to balance up things here there has been two topics today 1 with some beautiful young ladies on the beach and 2 some attractive Maids in Tokyo, the news team now have to balance thing up with possibly hunky firemen at work or something like this, may be Salary man monthly??

Kangawota,
Tokyo's reservoirs at at the lowest levels ever. We have major water problems if we do not get lots of rain very soon.
Tossing water on concrete just raises the humidity and cools off the area doused only momentarily. Tress, if they are allowed to grow a canapy, shade the concrete from the sun as well as provide other benefits.
I agree with Smithinjapan on this one.
