    If I were the cops patrolling and international event like this one, I would be wondering "why does a woman(?) who look like that have 2 cell phones? No way she is that popular, is one a remote controls detonator? Is there a bomb in the teddy bear?

    Do the people in these photographs know that they are being displayed on the internet in an open discussion forum?? I've always wondered about the legality if not.

    Oh, and she does look like a troll - agreed.

    Moderator: To the best of our knowledge, there is no law against news organizations taking photos of persons in public spaces while covering events.

    the thing in the middle is fair game for news use, now if reuters started selling the image(hey just an example HAHA) then they wud need a model release or in this case a THING RELEASE

    I agree, just another "kawaii" girl that is way past her prime. Whenever she does find a man (we hope) that guy will be in a world of hurt from her in regards to the mental trauma he will have to face.

    @ironbeard.

    There's a long tradition of street photography in Japan. I don't think there are laws governing "photographers' rights" as in other places, except for some specific laws about not being able to photograph military installations unless you have express consent. However, if the subject feels you violated their human rights, they have a right to sue you if they can prove you brought some damage to them -reputation, etc. Basically you can photograph anything within view from street level. Like any other place, you will see "no photography signs" which have no law to back them but do dissuade people from taking photos.

    Being that this is an English language site, the probability of getting sued by subject in pink is quite low.

    Guys you have it all wrong. This is actually a drill. The police were told to keep an eye out for a known felon who abducted a teddy bear in the area around the COP10 in Nagoya. She was last seen with a ghastly hairdo, a get up from a far away planet and two cell phones. As yet they haven't been able to spot her.

    This is a Reuters photograph. Meaning it was bought/licensed for use by JT from Reuters. Simply put, legal responsibility is on Reuters. Fair news laws basically state that public areas - including streets are fair game. The lady and the police can expect no privacy as they are outside in a PUBLIC area.

    I really wish people would research before commenting. Oh wait...then all the fun comments would be nil.

    Still, I don't like people randomly filming the street while I'm walking down it. Feels like a major invasion of privacy.

    The moderator is correct. She is in a public place and if the Press is there to take pictures, she is fair game as she is somewhat interesting. More interesting is that there are men who would find her attractive both Japanese and american, and probably most men who have had a drink or 3.

    For Ironbeard, a filming company would have assistants out with signs warning of filming in progress and if you still enter the area, you have been warned. This is a still shot so the warnings do not apply.

    But as a photographer I would not want this in my demo reel. A shinjuku want to be or Holloween model.
