Cow Parade Tokyo Marunouchi 2008

Cow Parade Tokyo Marunouchi 2008

A statue of a cow stands in the Marunouchi area of Tokyo as part of Cow Parade Tokyo Marunouchi 2008 which runs through Oct 19. Seventy-three cow and bull statues have been installed on the streets and inside buildings in the area. The statues will be auctioned to raise money for charities after the event.

I think I saw that same cow about a week ago after I had my second bottle of Sake (or was it my third bottle)?

They used to be in New York. So that's where they went.

Actually I think this cow/bull painting thing started in Chicago, then NYC (Wall Street/Bull market) jumped on it. Now it's in Japan???? Uh.... why?

Doubt if they will be able cover the cost of making these statues even, anyway, good luck from my side.

Reminiscent of the 'The Party' pool scene with the elephant. Where are the birdy num nums...?

Vancouver did the same with bears a couple of years ago. Cool idea.

Isn't 'cattle' plural? I hope the others look better than this one or they will be paying people to take them.

This picture is very nice. I like the art on the cow with the exception of the red lips. do you know what is the idea behind the pictures on the cow?

    Um.... Mating season?

What an ugly-looking statue. What's wrong with a cow that looks like a cow?

leao: Loosen up babe...This is hip. This is Marunouchi, dig?

I saw some of the exhibits in the Cow Parade in Manchester a few years ago. I think it's a rather good idea, personally.

It looks more like a bull to me. This has been around in Marunouchi for a number of years now. I think that this is a global event that started in Switzerland...

That settles it! The cow gets my vote for "Best Legs in Japan!"

Maybe it's one of those cross-dressing bulls trying to make you think it's a cow. Just Moooarvlous!

Nutsagain - You're right it does remind me of that baby elephant in "The Party" ... birdy num num forever!

Cow Parade Tokyo Marunouchi 2008...that's quite a meaty title. But it has been running all year. And last year. And the year before that...only they aren't running, I should add. Just filing in droves.

serendipyity, cattle is the gender non-specific word like 'flight attendant'. 'stewardess' is to 'cow' as 'steward' is to 'bull'.

Looks like Bull race tradition in Spain.

    Nessie,

a cow that looks like a cow is not Art.

Unless, of course, you launch it from a catapult.

What a bunch of art snobs here.

Of course it's art. A piece that does what art is supposed to do. Touches our primal instincts yet transcends us to think on a deeper plane.

This piece is obviously a subtle slam on Japanese culture and social mores in regards to the backwards way they treat women here as second class citizens.

Notice the bold female pink color on the cow. A cow that all serious viewers of art such as meself knows represents motherhood. The life giver of the milk of kindness the allows us to rise above our animal instincts.

The bold lipstick on the side that shows feminism in Japan shall not be beat down!

This piece says "I am cow hear me MOOO".

I for one have udder appreciation for this moosterpiece and I would suggest you butter take another look at it and see it for the work that it really is instead of trying for a cheap laugh.

Nowhere does it claim to be art.

Dunno much about art, but I know what I like.

    And what I like isn't a pink, paint-daubed cow.

I agree with cleo. Blimey, looks like a right silly moo dunnit? Ha ha ha.

I like my cow daubed liberally with steak sauce.

    Nessie,

I have a feeling you missed my earlier reference. This might clear it up. You have to watch them both to really understand:

It's not art just a silly pink cow with red lips painted on it.

The parade of cows was in Denver, CO last year, and I agree with most folks, that is one ugly piece of cow "art". At least the ones we had here didn't have obscene pink colors or were that aggressive on the eyes.

Only cow I care for is the lilac one aka "Milka Cow".

I know it won't mean much to most posters here: http://www.freakingnews.com/pictures/25000/Milka-Cow-25254.jpg

Same way we got a cow for a famous cheese.

    GeorgeRoper

TheNewZen- I don`t understand what you mean, i am getting on a bit, is it a youngster thing?

I dont know why they would parade cows. Strewth seems weird to me. Blimey if you want a cow parade, go down The Dog and Bull an a Saturday night, its full of old cows, all drunk and falling about, outragous.

Cleo, what's wrong with a pink cow? To each his own. My wife's nephew's teacher once called her on the carpet and said their was something wrong with her son's head. He had painted a blue snowman. 'Twas a lot prettier than a white one.

We have octopuses and squid selling air freshener on TV and a Gekko lizard selling car insurance.

Whole lotta people have something wrong with their heads; maybe even I.
