but she said, "they aren't cute".

BAKA!!! C'mon, let the boys and girls have their fun! We all do (try) don't we, within our respective limits. Whether you drive a Ferrari, Aston Martin or a Hummer. None are suited to the roads here or in most other countries of the world. But they are fun, right? Like having the huge screen TV with high power audio system and the 600 liter fridge-freezer in a tiny dwelling!

Wow, suprised they survived that. And it was probably such a nice car too...

To conqueror: Porsches have a special bumper systems that protects them for speeds up to 20km/h. Like a suspension, but between bumper and chassis. So if this rich daughter really damages the car, she must do quite bad things.

    electric2004:

Mine use to speed to 15km/h. All my girl friends from 1st grade were bad about it.

    electric2004:

She would do a trade-off with the Porsche dealer for even the slightest cosmetic boo-boo, rather than have it repaired. Mostly side swiping on turns and superficial bumper damages.

I don't know the Engligh word for 下取り, when the dealer buys back your old car, and deducts the price from the new car.

So, no guesses on which model it used to be? I'm thinking it might have been an F355.

    Any other guesses?

PS: I have nothing against anybody who can buy such cars. They keep the mechanics who work on them (and their families) well fed!

Conqueror, the word in english is trade-in and the japanese if I can read the Kanji correctly is shi ta tori or similar.

  • viking68 at 06:29 AM JST - 13th May

下取り is called "trade-in". We also call it "getting ripped off".

  • cleo at 09:42 AM JST - 13th May

    In British English it's 'part-exchange'.

  • notimpressed at 10:10 AM JST - 13th May

haha, and there I thought I spoke British English, but I would say trade-in too.Oh well. Parts exchange is more likely with whats left of that one in the photo though.

Ummm I think that is what is known as a write off,, lol
Must say though, I am glad no one was hurt.

  • cleo at 01:53 PM JST - 13th May

There's hardly a dent in the guardrail.

For all of you who say these cars aren't suited to the roads in Japan, you must be a little kooky. Have you actually seen the mountain roads outside of major cities? Down in Yamaguchi ken and Hiroshima ken there are many, many miles of twisty mountain roads, with close to new blacktop. They even straighten out once in a while.

rjdsr: to buy a car like this isn't about an investment. If someone wants to invest, get into stocks or whatever. Most people buy Ferrari's because they think they are beautiful cars and they are fun to drive. Why should every major purchase be made with the future value in mind, and not just the enjoyment of it?

coligny: no, dreams of owning a Ferrari doesn't keep me alive. Being happy with my life does. However, is there any reason why anyone can say that I can't want something because I think it is a piece of art, not to mention fun to drive?
