Although two babies are for real, the contrast between crying babies and smiling sumo wrestlers is somewhat amusing. :‑)

Caption of photo of the day - Crying Sumo - is not correct . Only one baby is crying whereas Sumo Wrestlers are smiling and looking joyful after blessing babies with healthy growth and long life.

I think this is a stupid custom and should be discontinued.

Many westerners think that their custom is superior and should be continued but Japanese custom is stupid and should be discontinued.

Look in a mirror, tina, because you practice exactly what you are preaching. The only person who has mentioned 'superiority' is you. People have a right to think this is stupid, and I doubt it is because it is a 'Japanese custom'; this isn't something that is done across the nation all the time. It is a mild entertainment, and that's why it is in the news. I've seen it, and it is kind of cute, but I don't need to see it again.
