“Teru teru bozu” dolls hang outside an inn in Tsumago, Nagano Prefecture, in the hope of summoning fine weather. The handmade paper or cloth dolls are supposed to have magical powers to ward off rain.

They look like thelittle homemade ghosts that many people here in the US hang in their trees at Halloween time. Not my cup of tea but to each his own.
