Absolutely pathetic. Stop turning these things into saccharine, cutesy toys. If you want to make yourself look stupid in public, go ahead, but leave dogs out of it.

Who cares? Dogs are lucky to be treated as friends to human beings an given many comforts.
I personally am not interested in the slobbery, hairy creatures but could care less if someone wanted to dress them up.
Now people picking on service dogs which has been in the news recently, that is pathetic.
Clothes are part of the attention. Your dog will become what you make it. Our 3 dogs will bring their toys, clothes, leash when they want to be included in activities. We have a 16 year old Shih Tzu (Candy Oba) that needs a sweater in the colder months. Clothes for dogs serve the same purpose as they do for humans. The two younger dogs wear booties when we go out on hot pavement. Since our dogs are house mutts, they need the extra protection for their pads from egg frying hot pavement. We sail as often as we can, the dogs have life jackets for use at the dock and proper sized leashes that allow them to be clipped to the jack lines while underway. Candy Oba has her own stroller for longer walks, she is blind and deaf but still has her sea legs and enjoys getting out with the family. She has been sailing since she was a puppy, and now has a padded bed in the cockpit where she crashes when she gets tired. I can't imagine not having a dog (or several) as a best friend........ now where did that cat go.. it's time for his bath.
I find people who dress up their dogs like this do me a great favour. As soon as I see a neighbour doing it, I immediately know I don't need to waste a moment in considering whether or not I need to ever have a conversation with them.
A woman in my apartment dresses her chicken-sized dog up, then chooses her own clothes accordingly, desperately waiting for someone to say "kawaii". I have yet to indulge her, although she's learned a few choice bits of anglo-saxon from our brief exchanges.
@Harold
Indeed. Some of these Frankensteinian miniaturized things with those freakish bulging eyes are now bred small enough to fit in a teacup. Kawaii?
There is no way I personally would ever own a dog that small, or insist on dressing them up and 'mollycoddling' them as many Japanese do, but I certainly don't see a problem with people who do. I have a bit of a laugh and shake my head sometimes when I see them, but I think it's harmless. Misguided perhaps, but I think their intentions are good.
At least they look after their dog! Having had the chance to volunteer for an RSPCA back home there are a lot of people out there who could probably learn a lot from these owners in terms of loving and caring for their pet!

Though I would not dress a dog (unless it is absolutely necessary for the comfort of the animal), I find your comment offensively condescending. One of my best friends dresses her dog in cute doggy outfits and that has never made her a lesser person than any of my other friends or acquaintances.
I find dressed-up dogs amusing most of the time. I respect the decisions their owners make though it bothers me a lot when I see a dressed dog showing physical distress because it feels overheated.
Jane - you thought that was offensively condescending? I wasn't even in second gear, dear.
People who dress their dogs like this view the animal as an accessory, an extension of their own profound need to be squeaked at. It's pitiful. A dog is a companion. It deserves so much more than this infantile indignity.
Just because the owner refuses to behave like an adult doesn't mean it's all right to force the asinine inadequacy on a defenceless animal. It gets on my nerves no end, and I'm pretty sure your friend would, too. No kids, I'm guessing, but of an age?
It's an animal totally adapted to its environment, dress ups is only for the owners with too much money and too much self absorption humanising an animal. A pig is smarter than any dog but you can't buy clothes for pigs.
Sorry to disappoint you, but she has children (two) and one of them still lives with her (the other is in uni) I did not know dogs feelings could be hurt if you dressed them up. Guess the fact that my friend’s taking good care of her dog or having a beautiful personality is immediately dismissed and amounts to nothing because of her dressing her dog, right? Hmm, wonder how people who do not dress their dogs (and thus never hurt the dog’s dignity) but still abuse them qualify in your book of honors?

Either there are a lot of Trolls out today or the Dog Haters Club has a membership drive underway. It says a lot about the state of our society when people have such vitriol and anger about someone putting clothes on a dog. Its not hard to figure out the posters whose idea of owning a pet is to have large hungry, abused pit bull tied outside their house on an over sized chain.

It seems that your "adequacy" gets questioned, too.
It gets on my nerves no end, and I'm pretty sure your friend would, too.
Good to know. I will tell her to look out and avoid at all costs cool-looking yet short-tempered, intolerant, and lacking any sense of humour anglo-Saxon males :-)
Dogs certainly do NOT need "human clothes" to show they are loved and not only well protected, they also protect their "human family" when quite "naked-in-dog-skin." ! My dog, however, did not like the rain so he had a "raincoat" - a "doggy raincoat" not a "human" one
He's either waiting for his partner/wife/GF who talks in annoying girly voice and wears OTT clothing... or he's lonely. I would never dress a dog up like that... far as I got was a rainproof coat for my Collie, and he only wore it the once.
I personally am not interested in the slobbery, hairy creatures but could care less if someone wanted to dress them up.
Sounds like some of the office nights out I've seen har har!
I grew up with dogs, and prefer them to most people.
No dog I ever owned, or came into contact with, ever needed a set of ribbons in its hair or a frilly dress on to know it was going to be treated well by me. I'd class that as adequate.

A bit over the top, I love dogs. How about not abusing them in the way you describe and not degrading them by dressing them up like young girls dress up their dolly? Just treat them like dogs. Too much to ask?
In my view, each dog has its own personality. Dressing up a dog is usually just an expression of someone's love for their dog. My present dog doesn't like clothing, so I respect her wishes. However, she does like her raincoat and rubber boots and seems to understand that this is better than getting drenched fur and chapped paws when its miserable outside. If the dog is happy, and this one in the photo seems to be, then it's a wonderfully cute and nice moment and what's wrong with that?
That guy knows what he's doing. Sure a few might think it's silly, but he majority of young women will be shouting "kawaiiii". Great way to start a conversation.

The cute little dog must be a girl friend for him.

Dogs need to be dogs. They can walk for themselves and don't need silly haircuts or play dress up. Dogs need attention, food and play. Not clothes.

I think clothes are the least insult done to dogs (spaying and neutering would be the primary)

Ridiculous. Never understood dressing up a dog. Maybe if its really cold like in Siberia and you want to protect them but comon, this? pffff

As long as the dog is treated well and isn't uncomfortable (you can tell) I'm fine with the dressing dogs up.

now only if the (hopefully) man walking her could dress more nicely.

That's not a dog. It's barely even a snack.

At least he is not putting the poor critter in a stroller or even carrying it in a baby sling like I see sometimes. Still, what a moron.

The dog looks silly. If she or he talks, she/he would cuss on how she/he feels hot and irritated under silly garments.

I am kind of flabbergasted that there are people who actually defend this sort of animal abuse. Live and learn.

I just watched a video of dog, dressed as giant spider, who scared the living s...out of some poor folks at night.
Then I see this photo and think: yes, this one is having it easier, even in these silly clothes.
