An ascetic Buddhist monk walks through flames, holding a prayer board, during the Nagatoro Fire Festival, a fire-walking ritual, at Choshozan Fudoji temple in Nagatoro town, northwest of Tokyo. The annual event is held in March to celebrate the coming of spring.

I went to one of these once and it actually did not hurt at all. East of Tokyo some place but I do not recall where. Was kind of fun.
