First-timer

American actress Julia Roberts poses during a press conference to promote her new film “Eat Pray Love” at the Ritz-Carlton at Tokyo Midtown on Wednesday. Roberts, 42, is making her first ever visit to Japan, but the Oscar-winning actress was tight-lipped when asked why she had never come to promote her films before, only saying “Now, it is my good fortune to be here.” There had been speculation in the tabloids that she didn’t like Japan. Roberts will stay in Japan until next Monday. “Eat Pray Love” opens in Japan on Sept 17.

She'll hate Japan after a week in this stinking muggy weather.

She is a very good actress. I love most of her movies.

There had been speculation in the tabloids that she didn’t like Japan. Gimme a break! She can be in Japan without experiencing the actual Japan if she chose to.

I agree with Lunchbox, after about a week, she will be glad to return to America. Japan suck when it comes to the weather.

Well maybe she has a low tolerance for BS. I don't blame her if it's true...

BS in the film industry? You must be mistaken. Regardless, she's done just fine without visiting Japan that's for sure. Why start now?

I suppose a lot of stars have no interest in Japan and don't really want to come here, especially when the junkets are so short, but it is probably in their contracts that they have to do PR for the film.

You can always tell which stars enjoy being here and interacting with fans (Tom Cruise and Will Smith) and which stars don't really want to be here (Johnny Depp, for one).

Really, She and Depp don't like Japan?

Your first Japanese word is ...onsen, say it, onsen...

I love that dress! It's really Earthy!

"speculation in the tabloids that she didn't like Japan"

How could there have been speculation that she didn't like Japan if she'd never been here?

"She'll hate Japan after a week in this stinking muggy weather"

Are you kidding, she's never going to leave her air conditioned environment, she goes from her private jet to her limo to her hotel...

"She looks so happy to be here"

    Har!

I attribute her look to two words: Jet Lag. She obviously came to the press conference straight from the airport. The front of her dress has the wrinkled creases of someone who has been sitting for a long period of time.

She's showing her age and getting that pissed off look.

There had been speculation in the tabloids that she didn’t like Japan.

Perhaps she was concerned about being lost in translation.

But most likely Julia was concerned about 'mean' comments posted about her on Japanese news internet sites.

Probably needed the money I reckon. At least that's what brings hollywood stars to Japan. The ones who really need the money end up on Japanese TV commercials.

Most of these stars visit Japan as part of the contract they signed to be in the movie. They have to do X number of public appearances promoting the movie before it opens. Once the movie opens in the States, they start their international appearances before it opens in those countries.

That dress looks good on her & though she has some age it is still not that bad. After all some women take pretty good cage of themselves & with the money, they have earned, they have the help of others to stay attractive.

I saw her interviewed on some morning TV program this week. She spoke and acted exactly as she looks in the photo above.
