This is a great shot. It's about being at the right place at the right time.

Mt. Fuji is still active and will erupt again someday like Saint Helens did. Any beautiful things will be gone. But nature will create another beautiful thing.

Not that there is a lack of Fuji-san photos, but this one is rather cool.

cool pic of fuji with a crappy-looking city in front of it

kwatt - Mt Fuji is dormant, though you are right it could fire up again quite easily and that would make Shizuoka could be a crappy place to be.

Look at the 'flame', doesn't it look like an eagle? Neat huh?

I think I like snowy mountain and Mt. Fuji is covered with snow at this time of the year, but this Mt. Fuji on fire is funny.

I'll bet it was taken in Fuji-shi, Shizuoka-ken. I used see that view everyday. Since it rises from basically sea-level there it looms large over the city. Due to the abundant water from the mountains, a port for pulp and proximity to the Tokaido-sen and Tomei, there are many major paper mills there, hence the stink. I once saw a British documentary that used the town as an example of urban blight.

I know it's a volcano but does anyone know what causes the flame like effect at the top of Fuji in this photo?
Nessie at 05:31 PM JST - 5th January
Backlit clouds and a yellow filter, I guess.
