Aya Sugimoto PHOTO BY TARO FUJIMOTO

Celebrity Aya Sugimoto, 40, takes part in an anti-fur campaign by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Asia Pacific (PETA) in Tokyo on Wednesday afternoon. Her photo is scheduled to be used in PETA’s upcoming advertising campaign in Japan, according to Jason Baker, director of PETA. Sugimoto said, “When I think of those poor animals, it’s no big deal for me to be naked in an ad. A woman can be gorgeous without real fur.” Asked about leather products, she said she still continues to buy them because “leather production is different from fur production.” However, Sugimoto said she has never visited fur production facilities but had seen photos and movies of them on the Internet.

There's no "i" in "teamwork," but there sure is "t&a" in "PETA."

At least she's holding the sign right-side-up.

Skinny...No way... She's probably a few kg up on most models her age...or most models for that matter... Definitely not fat, but certainly not skinny...Nice....

But the younger generation JN's have been putting on some weight...You never see too many of the older one's being obese...

I wonder if she drank a lot of prune juice before this pic?

  • MrMukatsuku at 11:49 AM JST - 18th September

So, when is she going to shave her head?

Like a caption under a photo I once saw under a beautiful woman once said: "No matter how fine she looks, some man, some where, is tired of her c**p."

In other words, all that glitters is not gold.

She is pretty though I must admit.

She's pretty but - eat please! A tofu burger, bean salad, something. Those arms look like pins and her shoulders are non-existent. It's good that she's not overweight but a little more bulk and muscle wouldn't do anything to deter from her looks, in fact they would help them and help prevent osteoporosis.

mindovermatter: Yes, you do see more overweight young Japanese nowadays but you also see more of the other extreme. In fact Japan is considered to have some of the highest rates of eating disorders in the world. Not a day goes by that I don't see at least two or three girls who look to be on the verge of death as well as any number of young men who don't appear to have an ounce of fat -or muscle- on them. Obviously Ms. Sugimoto doesn't fall into that category but I still say she could stand another 5 kilos at least. The pose is making her look curvy but standing up straight a woman that skinny is not going to have any natural curves.

Actually I was surprised to see comments about how skinny she is because...my first reaction to the picture was that she looks healthy and not all skinny, Her legs aren't stick thin, she has some stomach and a full behind. Shes average for a japanese woman her age!

    1. she's 40 years old and in fabulous shape with a beautiful face
    2. she's in better shape than most young women (japanese and american) between the ages of 16 - 24
    3. she's a fabulous dancer and enjoys her independence
    4. although she's a "tarento" she feels none of the restrictions often imposed by japanese production companies
    5. befor you attempt to judge/misjudge her, her motives and her actions; brush up on your japanese & go to: http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=ja-JP&vid=5280531a-3fea-4e77-be74-b6c437952bdb ... to watch the post-photo shoot interview
    6. note that the j-media/quasi-journalist that had been sent by the usual suspect "media" outlets were grossly unqualified to discuss/ask questions about PETA or anything vaguely political/social and instead chose to focus on the nudity, much to ms sugimoto's annoyance
    7. she's 40 years old and in fabulous shape with a beautiful face
